Before I stopped playing, I had several stacks of gems in the bank. I was not sure if I was going to go jewel-crafting myself. I think I will just keep mining instead, and sell what I find on AH. That being said, have you found that gems are worth a lot more because of JC, or less, because people can prospect?
Edit- just realized I didn't mention any specifics. I collected just about all types of gems to some amount. If you could list the average price of things like tigerseye, jade, star ruby, and arcane crystal I would appreciate it.

Uncommon gems aren't worth jack. I've got probably 200 of them in my bank. I've tried to sell them, but they just don't move. I keep them just when someone wants one I'll give it to them free. Rare gems are worth a bunch though.
JC is REALLY expensive. Even if you do what I did, farm all the mats for leveling 1-373 (atm), most people ask for the rare gem cuts when they want gems. Those run between 200 and 800g A PIECE for the design on my server, so unless you're willing to invest a few thousand gold into something that won't have great returns (due to so much competition), don't bother. Its worth it in my case because I'm in an end-game raiding guild and they occasionally supply me with designs and they also supply me with a frequent need of gems.
