To High Level Enchanters: Illusion DustFollow

#1 Mar 14 2007 at 8:04 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all,
The other day I hit level 300 enchanting, and I needed to disenchant some items for illusion dust to sell some enchants. I usually DE'd the dust from 56-60 armor, but I now noticed that since TBC came out that 56-60 yeilds mostly arcane dust. Do any high level enchanters know the best item / item level range to disenchant large amounts of illusion dust? thank you.

I think level 51-55 items are probably a better choice. I have a similar problem but with eternal essences. I've stopped searching AH for 56-60 weapons because all I get is planar essence, which is worth less than a greater eternal on my server. I do sometimes get illusion dust from these 51-55 weapons. (And that's when I want to bang my head on the wall, since obviously illusion dust is worth less than a greater eternal too).

My favorite source for Illusion dust is to make Wicked Leather Headbands on my Leatherworker and DE those - often get 2 or 3 dusts and a fair chance for Greater Eternals while you are at it.

I just do a search for level 56 items only as these are still the old items only, Outlands items start at level 57. These will yield the highest amount of Illusion Dust, then start checking the 51-55 items, but try to pay less for these as they will only give you 1-2 dusts. Same if you're looking for Greater Eternal Essences, try for 56 items first, then 51-55.

Also if you get the Enchantrix gamma version add-on, it only has the info for old-word items, so when you mouse over them and it doesn't give you any dis-enchanting percentages, you know it's an Outlands item.

This is what I do. You have to wade through a lot of outlands greens but it doesn't take too long. I go through all 56-60 armor first and then I hit 51-55. But I find 51-55 is often too expensive for the 1-2 illusion dust you get from it.
