Can somebody give me a good heads up on the best way to go 1-150 and the best way to prevent me missing fish, all the lures and where to get them? How to buff my fishing?

That's asking for alot.

There are links to many different guides in this forum, probably some on the first page.

Go take a look and find them.

Says you. That's alot of info, and you'll have alot of trouble to find a complete list like what you are asking for. The question of what price fish sells is also completely reliant to the economy of your server. You're asking to do more work for you than would be required if you did it yourself.

I mean, you didn't even check the last few pages to see if any of your answers were there. I did, and it took less time to find a very nice powerlevel guide to getting your fishing up than it did to write out this post. In that guide, there was yet ANOTHER link to a different guide that answered even more of your questions. Again, all less than 5 min.

Now that I have that info, am I even willing to share it with you? Nah, you're WAY too damn lazy. Go do something else than riddle this forum with yet another request for "Give me your time and information cause I'm too damn lazy and/or stupid to do anything myself".

When you get abit higher skill in fishing, a good tip is to fish outside/inside in WC for Deviate Fish (sell for lots of money), and Stonescale eel in Tanaris/Strangethorn Vale (Don't know if the price changed now that BC came out).

  1. No matter what your faction is, get yourself to 100 fishing as fast as possible. You can do this in the newbie zones, and usually close to the trainer. As a new fisherman, use lures. use the best lures that your skill can use, bu only buy one lure at a time until you get to 100 skill.
  2. If you are Alliance, get yourself to Menethil Harbor as early as possible. This is easy for a Night Elf/Draenei, since it's a short boat ride. Humans. Dwarves. and gnomes should do a low-level death run (remove all armor) to get there. Pick up FPs along the way, and you won't have to do the death run again.
  3. In Menethin Harbor, you can find a few places where schools form, but don't count on schools. There are plenty of Firefin Snapper and Oily Blackmouth to be caught without looking for the pools. Those are the money fish. Use the other fish to up your cooking skill,
  4. If you are Horde, head for the Barrens. This should be done not quite as early as Alliance, since your fishing spots are frequented by L12-L16 mobs that will attempt to kill you.
  5. Your fishing spots should be in the Barrens Oases, where you will be fishing for Deviate Fish. There are many fishing pools in these lakes, and you should take advantage of all of them. You will also want to kill as many of the turtles at the lakes as possible, since they drop the recipe for Savory Deviate Delight. Until you get the recipe, sell the fish. After you get the recipe, sell the finished product.
  6. When you get to level 20, go to Booty bay and buy the skill book to raise your cap from 150 to 225. Stay in BB and fish there until you reach 225. There are plenty of Firefins and Blackmouths to be found there. If you feel that you aren't making enough gold from fishing at Booty Bay, you can always return to your other fishing spots.
  7. Around level 25, get your toon to Gadgetzan in Tanaris, and pick up the flight path. Go to the shore and fish for Stonescale Eels at Steamwheedle Port. You can also run the beachs and search for fishing pools. The turtle will not aggro on you.
  8. At level 35, go to the Island in Menethil Bay and talk to Nat Pagle, who will send you on a quest to Desolace, Feralas, Stranglethorn Vale, and Swamp of Sorrows to catch special fish. Return to Nat Pagle after you have caught the four fish, and your cap will become 300.
  9. Around Level 45, you can start widening your fishing spots. Stonescale pools can be found in Tanaris, Feralas, and Azhara. When you finally are able to fish Azhara semi-safely, look for the elemental pools and fish there.
  10. At level 50, you can start looking for the next fishing book in the AH. It will be pricey, but your cap will be increased to 375. If you prefer a lower price, wait until you are able to go to the Outlands and visit the fishing Trainer at Cenarion Refuge in Zangramarsh.

Becuase we have a life? :P

More seriously compared to what Mike is saying, I'd rather go to Ratchet than BB around lvl 20 because of the wreckage nodes, you will get more gold from those than from firefin/oily based on my experience.

Wrong! Richard Cheney stole all of his good material from me!

ummm... wait! that would imply that Richard Cheney has good material... change that!

Richard Cheney got all his information on Iraq from me.

I wouldn't recommend doing the artisan quest until around 40 because of where you have to go to do it. At 35, you'll attract a good deal of mob attention in Feralas and in the Swamp (particularly the latter where you have to traipse across the entire zone and fish in an area with lvl 41-42 basilisks). Also getting to Nat Pagle can be a pain at a lower level because of the level 41-45 Threshers that are in the water around his island. It's certainly doable, but it's easier and safer to manage at level 40ish.

A lot of people don't bother with fishing because they find it boring, but I generally think this is a mistake game-wise. You can make a lot of money fishing if you fish the right fish, and you can also very easily level your cooking skill to get nice buff food regularly if you train up fishing.

Im doing for it for the money and the buffs myself. Im going to stockpile alot of the buffing foods and im going to put the gold into my alt's savings account.

I started fishing just for fun, but since I have alchemy it's pretty important to fish for mats. My other toon is tailor/enchanter, so basically everything I find in crates goes to her, very practical. But it's very much like cooking, I will probably learn fishing and cooking only on one of my chars, won't have the patience to skill it up on a 2nd char.

I was thinking of his "F U" and "major league a'hole" lines.

That's what makes that quest fun. And it is doable at L35. Getting to Nat Pagle is a matter of finding dry land whenever you pick up a sea serpent and island hopping to him.

The reason folks call the OP "lazy" is because it appears that he did not read the FAQ or the fishing guide posted on this site.

Calling him names for not noticing those items is a little silly.

He didn't get those from me. I have a far better vocabulary, and never resort to "F U". I can think of many ways to say the same things without resorting to crass vulgarity, while explaining to the person addressed exactly why he should do so. "Major league a'hole", while having possibilities, really does require a follow up explaining why cousins shouldn't marry while wondering about the consequences of a village having lost its idiot.

I always do this quest as early as possible. getting to the island is easy. In Feralas, the road is fairly safe, and there is a good fishing spot just off the road by the Verdantis River. Swamp of Sorrows is more problematical, but most mobs don't bring in adds, and you should be able to take them if you aggro only one.

for me the fishing quest seems to have changed some. i first did it on my rogue about a year and a half ago, and it took me almost all day to complete. a few months ago my hunter did it and i was catching the quest fish in 1-3 casts.did they change the drop rate or did i just have a lucky streak this time around? iddie

I think it was the other way around. Your rogue had an unlucky streak. My main did her quest abiout the same time your rogue did, and finished it right off.

Any body of water that allows fishing will give you skill ups. The difference per zone is the skill level requirement.

Pre-TBC, fishing was required by hunters (at least this one). You could get the best pet food in Azshara (L45 requirement) but you needed a skill of 400+ if I recall correctly.

With TBC, there are so many recipes that give stat food that fishing is all but useless. Unless you are the true hardcore that wants Mr. Pinchy or an alchemist, fishing is not that important anymore.

As a tip, get the fishing lures, fishing pole (+20 or higher) and even fishing enchant for gloves.
