DEing depends a lot on how much gold you start with, but it's certainly more profitable for me than skinning. However, it's best done with an alt who does nothing but run between the AH and the mailbox, not a toon you want to adventure with beyond L35 (to get enchanting skill to 275). If you want to spend time adventuring, choose skinning.

By the way, there is nothing to prevent you from creating a skinner/disenchanter. Don't choose tailor/disenchanter. Tailoring is JAMS (Just Another Money Sink). Yes, it's JAMS even if you craft stuff to DE.

Leave skinning for farmers. It's a major pain. I always pick quests and zones with humanoid mobs when questing because I just absolutely loath mobs that fill my bags with gray stuff. And skinnable mobs are invariably the ones that leave behind many different types of paws, eyes, manes, tails, etc. I feel bad about destroying them, which results in endless shuffles to vendors. Humanoids are lovely as they mainly drop cloths and money, and always only 1-2 types of cloths, which stack well. I can spend a whole day questing without filling up my bags with animal parts.

FYI, I have two 14 slots and two 12 slots (only level 53). It's not like I run around with 10 slotters.

I apologize to LittleHamster, and retract my statement.

Hamster, would your husband's feeling really be hurt if you got all 16-slotters? You might point out to him that getting all 16-slot bags is equivalent to getting an extra 12-slot bag (and point out that he needs extra room for his stuff as well and get him 4 brand-new 16-slot bags as well). You could also try batting your eyes at him. When my wife does that, I'm putty in her hands.

I do have 550g on me, nothing as spectacular as your 2000g+ I know. Also, on my server, netherweave bags are only 9g a piece, imbued netherweave bags about 20g. I can't go and buy bags because my husband is a tailor. It'd hurt his feelings. The 14 slots I have are quest rewards, and he's only up to making those silly 12 slot mageweave bags. That's why I'd never recommend tailoring to anyone who's only after the bags. It's the stupidest idea in the world. But I've met quite a few tailor warriors.
