I play a troll hunter and not only enjoy my racial boost to bow skill but also like how the sound of the bow being fired doesn't start to annoy me. What bugs me is that guns get improved crafted amo, so why don't bows? On a related note, why isn't their a profession that makes bows? We have NPC venders that sell only bows but no one can make them.
Its because guns are slower, they need extra POWPOW factors.

The thorium shells crafted by engineers can be exchanged for thorium arrows in Ironforge and Ogrimmar.
Bowyers and general merch guys (whoever sells reg. arrows.) will sell a variety of arrows depending on your level ...begining with , ( I believe ) rough arrows and sharp arrows , razor arrows , and jagged arrows and so on as you progress in levels ... I'm at level 43 and the Jagged is the best arrow I can get thus far ...also to note , you may also get bigger quivers that has added ranged attack plusses and obviosly , more slots for more arrows ... At every 10 levels an option opens up for you ... 10 , 20 , 30 , 40 , ,, you get the picture ... Did that help any ?
Buying ammo from the Cenarion Expedition rep vendor in Zangarmarsh is FAR more cost effective than crafting bullets currently. You used to be able to trade in crafted shot for arrows, this is no longer needed with teh CE ammo. Additionally there is ridiculously good ammo available from the Keepers of Time rep vendor. Epic, 50dps.
As for a profession making bows, there is no profession in game that can be associated with crafting a bow. You'd have to have a craft that *JUST* made bows and arrows. (Bowyer/Fletcher). There would be no one that was not a hunter with this craft and leveling it would suck. (375 points from ammo and Bows...)

Thorium ammo/bullets are obfuscated by new ammo introduced with Patch 2.0.1 and the BC expansion.
Try these arrows.

[wowitem=28056]Blackflight Arrow[/wowitem] (Outlands vendors)
[wowitem=24417]Scout's Arrow[/wowitem] (Cenarian Refuge - Honored)
[wowitem=24412]Warden's Arrow[/wowitem] (Cenarian Refuge - Revered)
[wowitem=31737]Timeless Arrow[/wowitem] (The Scale of the Sands - Honored)
Any ammo you find will have an arrow counterpart with same DPS and other stats.

I got my [Halaani Razorshaft] arrows from Nagrand. 38.5 DPS.
You have to control the PvP area however, for the vendor to appear.
