Blacksmithing and going to OutlandsFollow

#1 Mar 06 2007 at 10:33 PM Rating: Decent
So I'm currently lvl56, just an inch away from 57. So just a few evenings of playtime and off I go into Outlands to get that phat lewt.

But my blacksmithing is currently only 266, I quess I can go 275 or so with the mats I currently have. As far as I can tell, I need to go to 320 before I enter the Fel Iron stage of blacksmithing. And getting that missing 45 skill points with thorium items requires huge loads of thorium. I'm quessing 60+ STACKS of thorium..

So my question is, do you find thorium in Outlands? I mean more than you do in Un'Goro?

If not, is there really a point to spend the next week or two collecting that much thorium so I'll have blacksmithing at 320 when I enter Outlands? Should I just leave the profession where it is, and not concentrate on it until I'm 70 and collect the thorium while I'm waiting for groups to high level instances?

Im in the same boat, but there are recipes for fel iron at 300. so just get to 300 which will suck. Im at 278 right now.

No, there's no Thorium in Outlands. Best zones for it are Burning Steppes, Winterspring, Silithus (esp. if you can stealth-mine) and Dire Maul East (requires killing last boss).

That really depends on if you want to make use of blacksmithing armor, weapons, adamantatite sharpening / weight stones etc as you level up. If you're not using the profession, then why keep it?

I would suggest that the easy solution to your problem is to initially focus on mining as you level up in Outlands. Sell the gems and motes (especially fire) for cash and use that cash to buy thorium. Level your blacksmithing with the mats from the AH and you'll soon hit the Fel Iron items. With the ore you stockpiled (remember only sell the gems & motes) you can then quickly level up to 360 skill in Blacksmithing. After that it gets hard so all bets are off.

I agree, getting to 300 blacksmithing I found a lot harder than reaching 350. The mats for fel iron are more readily available than thorium as fel iron and adamantite are everywhere, so just mine as you go and you will have plenty to level up with.
