Should I drop skinning for blacksmithing?Follow

#1 Mar 06 2007 at 2:42 AM Rating: Decent
right now I have 289mining and 300 skinning, I was thinking about
A: dropping one after I get my epic mount
or
B: dropping one after I get my epic dragon
or
C: keep them because it's the conservative thing to do and its decent income and stable income and that I'll find great items anyways

I really can't decide.

Your decision boils down to an issue that we can't decide for you: what do you want from your professions?

At the moment, you have two gathering professions and their only usage is making money. As you said, they are bringing in a steady, decent income.

Mining also feeds into engineering and jewelcrafting. BS is popular and one (or more) of your guildies is likely to have this maxed so to take it up yourself is merely duplicating skills and a waste of time. You might want to look at what skills your guild has already and go for something that's lacking.

Ah that is another simple option I have not thought of thought but I should have.

I think I'll just stay farming untill I get 70 and have decent items then break off to go to enchanting or something that could help all my gulidies out.

And what is your opinion based on?

If the OP wants some mail armor, he's probably a hunter or shaman. And he's going to give a Leatherworker leather to get it made.

It all depends on what you want to do with your time. I just dropped herbalism on my warrior and took up blacksmithing (I already had 375/375 mining). Why? Because I want to go weaponsmith when I get high enough level so I can make one of those awesome tanking weapons like Fireguard. My guild's not going to see anything higher than Shadow Labs for quite a while, so I'm not likely to get anything better through drops (unless I pug, and on my server, that's akin to madness). So since I can already farm the mats I need between my warrior and other alts, it was a no-brainer for me. I actually enjoy leveling the skill up, but it does take some money to do.

However, if you're in a guild that has no trouble with the instances, and does them quite often, you may want to stick with skinning, as you'd get most of your gear there. It's pretty much up to you and how you play the game.

I am actually in the same EXACT situation. I have a shaman and have a maxed skinning and 300 mining also.

Thought about taking up BS but then realized that I could always make the money with mining/skinning and then buy a nice blue off the AH or have another BS make it for me (you end up buying the mats either way, unless you have a really nice guildie)

seeing as how expensive mats are, I decided to stick with mining/skinning b/c mats are so expensive for BS and I dunno how much I can really make with enchanting, I heard you can make alot through disenchants but that just seems a little bit to risky
