Disenchanting Soulbound items from other charactersFollow

Being an enchanter I have no problems disenchanting items that are soulbound. BUT, can you disenchant an item that someone else has that is soulbound?

EX: If my friend has an item and is wanting to give it to me for the mats. Everyone knows once something is soulbound you cannot sell it on the AH or give it to another character. Can he put it in the "Will not be traded" box and then I disenchant it? Thus, being able to use the mats for another enchant.
