I stopped to fish out of a swirling pool of fish in Terokkar Forest. I was using a +100 lure so I continued fishing until my five minutes ran out. One of the fish I pulled up after the pool was gone was a Goldenscale Vendorfish. Naturally it’s a gray item; thus good for nothing but the vendor. I laughed when I caught it and then continued on to town. I was rather surprised when I went to sell it and the vendor offered me 6 Gold.
So, should you fish one of these up you may not want to trash it for inventory space.

It's a very rare drop from fishing, so don't quit your day job. 
I think this is the Outlands version of the bloated fish that occasionally pop up in fish spawns in Azeroth and contain gems and stuff. I haven't seen any bloated fish yet in the Outlands, but I've seen a few of these. They only seem to occur when I'm fishing spawns, though.
Yes, not a common fish, but I've gotten 4 or 5 at least so far. I see it as a nice bonus to the actual fish I get to cook up for buffs.
I love the fish too, and I was wondering about the name. I think it was called like that to actually make people go and sell it. I have seen players leave gray loot behind - clearly foolish, because gray weapons still sell for 1-2g, better than some uncommon loot actually. But some did not get it yet, hehe.
I think the BC trophy fish should vendor for more than they do. 5 silver? Gah. A gold would be more appropriate.

And I've had trouble with some vendors not buying trophy fish, too. But the vendorfish always sell =)

That was a bug. They were considered charged items with a partial charge remaining, so vendors wouldn't buy them. So you'd just throw the valueless trophy fish away. Dumb. So they fixed that, but their value is 5 silver. That's practically zero in BC terms.
