Alchemy as a new profession?Follow

#1 Feb 28 2007 at 1:53 AM Rating: Decent
Im now a lvl 29 BE Mage, with about 200 skinning and 150 mining and i don't have much WoW experience..

But I think i'll give up one of my professions for Alchemy.. Looks like it's pretty good to have at higher levels. What do you think about it? Or is it too expensive to have Alchemy without Herbalism?

And which one of my professions should i give up? Should ofcourse be the less profitable..

Give me your opinion please :) Thx..

Personally I'd think you're fine where you're at. Skinning and mining are both very profitable professions for first character... I would say stick with that... Or, if you were interested in alchemy I'd just pick up herbalism and have someone convert your findings into elixirs/pots.

It's not my first char, actually i have a lvl 60 hunter but never really cared for other professions than my own :) I just wanted to lvl my char.. I have Skinning/Leatherworking on my hunter..

I want to craft the potions and flasks myself.. So is it to expensive to have Alch. without Herb. ?
And which profession is more profitable, Skinning or Mining?

At least on my server, herbs are in constant short supply on the AH. I have herbalism (my husband has alchemy), and quite often when I put some of the more popular herbs up on AH, I notice that I'm the only person listing them. And I usually put only a stack of 5 each time. This shortage ranges from low level herbs like briarthorn, to mid level ones like wild steelbloom, to the high level ones like sungrass, blindweed, etc. These are the ones I pick a lot since they make swiftness, defense, health and mana potions. Unless your server has a lot of herb farmers, you might not be able to buy the herbs to make potions when you need them.

I don't have mining, so I'm not sure about the ore supply. But this shortage might have something to do with every gatherer now doing mining instead of herbing :)

I'd stick with the two gathering profs until 40 to get your mount/upgrades etc.
Then go to alchemy =]

As far as I have noticed (over 2 servers) with the economy yo-yoing from the expansion and such... I wouldn't suggest relying on the AH to lvl up a profession. Not only will it be expensive, I bet you'd find yourself waiting for days for something.

I skilled up alchemy to 350 in one day, yesterday, and got everything from the AH. It is expensive but didn't have to wait for anything very long. Briarthorn was in short supply early on, but didn't have to wait all that long.

Noteworthy: Apparently the trinket at 350 will no longer add the 40% to healthstones for warlocks, in the next patch. Soon to be exclusively potions:-{
