Enchanting....is it me , is it fear?Follow

#1 Feb 20 2007 at 11:41 PM Rating: Decent
Ok after reading many wonderful posts about making money with enchanting , i dropped my maxed out skinning and went to enchanting trainer. I quickly leveled to 180, then i decided that some profit will be good and went to AH. I became terrified after looking at worst disbalance of prices i have ever seen where mid range shard is priced little over Nexus, and where tons of people put their stuff on AH. OK sales are horrible, about 90% of people are enchanters and it brings way too many competition, and i am not in it so i can put agilty or stamina bonus on someones worn boots i am in it for the money. Ok so far i only got to 180 and dumped only 40 gold on mats and training so i can stop right there and get mining or get my skinning back up, so my question is - Is it worth It ? Will i see the end of the tunnel with all this competition at hand? I am ready to go on and dump more money ,spend more time but i need to be confident that its for the best!
Ty in advance for your advices , flaming and all the work u will do to reply !

P.S sorry was writing this topic at 2.30 am i may have some errors here .

if you're trying to sell mats, I've never had any problems selling mats on my server. They usually sell over night, even when I don't undercut. I'm never in a hurry to sell mats off because there isn't a deposit on them, so I can put them up for higher than the lowest price. I also NEVER sell on weekends. The market gets saturated on weekends, and that's when the prices are at the lowest.

And some mid-ranged shards sell for as much if not more than nexus because there are more demand for them. Sure, Nexus is more rare, but something like Large Radiant Shards are used in several important (and still affordable) enchants, and even in a quest. Also, Greater Eternal Essences are used in A LOT of very popular enchants, so those sell quite nicely.

stick with enchanting, it is great in the long run. along with a money maker skill. Ex. tailoring, skinning, minning, herbalism (basicaly any skill that doesnt depend on another) and also enchanting is great for helpin your alts and saves u money if u ever want an enchant

If you are just starting out in the craft then you need to invest some effort and cash in levelling up enchanting before you see profit. What I do is run solo through low level instances to gather mats to disenchant( no cash needed here-mats are free!) then use them to level enchanting on scrubby stuff. You can even make wands to sell for almost pure profit (only mat cost will be the wood)and enchant lesser items for my alts or friends. This allows me to skill up enchanting without much cash invested. Once the skill is up there you can disenchant higher level items and start seeing a profit.

I find most of my money (200g at level 20 alt with no money mailing) is made from selling greys to the vendor and then going to the AH, buying lowbie blues and twink weapons and selling them for 2x the price.

stick with it. you need 225 to DE up to lvl 60 items - my best money makers are nether essence (lv1 41-45) and eternal essence (lvl 51-55)

find the cheapest enchant to lvl your skill and do that until it goes yellow. watch the AH for underpriced mats with which you need to do it. farming low-level instances for mats is less efficient that just farming gold and buying from AH.

Well i have 225 atm and its not very easy to level it up since there are many enchanters on my server and its hard to find underpriced disenchantable items so i do both methods the instances and Ah reselling . Ah forgot to thank you for all your advices here. One more question though what is the best strategy do u buy/farm stuff and sell mats on AH or do u rely on fiery/icy etc enchants to make money? Does enchanting with high end enchants like the ones i mentioned above bring u the most cash or is it reselling strategy ?

You should be doing a little of both to keep your income a little more steady.

You should still be running lower level instances and disenchanting items, but also you need to work off your skills and earn some profit.

I'm at level 254 right now. Never made any money selling the enchants. All profits I made from enchanting are from selling mats. I don't have any rare enchants, but the ones I have do sell, if only very slowly, like 1-2 customers a week. I sell the enchants at mat cost. That is the cost I sell the mats for, not the cost of acquisition. If I do buy the mats from AH, I mark up 10% instead. I have looked at the cost of buying fiery, but it's like 80g for the formula, and I have doubts I'll ever make the money back for the formula. Icy chill is cheaper on my server, like around 15g, so when I'm at the right level, I might give that a try.

My advice would be sticking to disenchanting to make money.

All the good enchants you need to get in order to make money involve either endless rep farming or farming specific mobs for weeks to see it drop. If you are doing this to sell mats that you DE, you would be much better off with two gathering professions.

Pick up skinning and either herbalism or mining. You will earn tons of cash with both of these and be able to buy whatever you want. Take it from a high level enchanter that's already sold his soul to this profession, it's not worth it. I've easily spent more than 3,000gp to get it to where it is and have a few rare enchants and I make little or no money from it. If I wasn't the guild enchanter, I would drop it in a heartbeat and pick up herbing.

It's hit or miss with enchanting depending on your server. Most high population servers rely on their guild enchanters for free enchants and so the only way to make money is to sell your mats. My main server is Medivh and I've made a maximum profit of 5g/hr spamming Ironforge with my enchants before TBC came out. But would sell mats for outrageous sums because I knew they would sell. Greater Eternal Essence would net me 30g/stack, Illusion Dust 20g/stack, Nexus Crystals 70g each, and Large Brilliant Shards would give me 8g. A single MC farming run would easily net the guild over 500g in enchanting materials.

On lower population servers I've been able to sell +7 stamina to bracer enchants for upwards of 5g+mats and firey for 10g+mats making well over 100g in an hr at peak times or selling stacks of soul dust for 5g/stack.

So you can make money with enchanting, but it will take time.

There's also a really good thing to do if you only want to lvl the enchanting. You spam what you can do in trade channel with: [Fantastic enchant] Bring mats and I'll pay you 1g for it!

Not so good for money making but it do level your enchanting easly.

I am currently raising my mining skill, taking a break from enchanting. I play with both strategies now, farming for mats, and buying cheap on AH. There are things like small radiant shards that often sell and some others . From what i see now its really hard to make money by making high end (former high end lets say) enchants for other players because competition is very high. Well so is demand , and thats why i am still leveling but not to fast because i prefer to DE and sell rather then be another chanter in trade channel. There is one more thing though, icy/fiery/crusader recipes are on AH for 100 gold each!! I farmed icy chill but i cant really farm for others , not yet(lev52 atm) so i continue my DE/AH sells and hoping to see a fiery for 20 gold ( a fools dream) or farm BRD for it when i am higher level
Thank you all very much for all the advices and strategies u provided here , i will keep on selling mats and searching for those enchants ,hopefully market will stabilize someday and enchanting other players will be more profitable then just selling mats, although like i said i am in it for the money,50 levels of skinning/leatherworking really seem a waste now. If u have anymore strategies or advices u can post them here.

I will make that damn signature just not now. My everyday story.

Is icy chill any good? The formula goes for only 10-15g on my server, and there's always 5+ of them listed. I've never bothered cause as a warrior, I'd rather have fiery or crusader. Does the enchant sell? I also bought fiery this weekend. It dropped from the normal price of 80g to 50g, so I picked up one. Now I just need 3 more levels to put this baby on my axe :)
