Fishing is RidiculousFollow

I'm a level 12 Undead Warlock and I just acquired the basic fishing training. I bought a fishing pole and went to the big lake near the Undercity. I tried fishing for around 25 minutes, but I could never catch a fish. I would click on it at the perfect time but it would say "fish lost" every time. So is there a place that's easier to catch fish?

I would suggest going to the very first village or town that you first reached immediately after the newb starter area, and look for the fishing trainer there. Beside that fishing trainer should be a fish-able body of water, which I would suggest fishing in. I would also suggest buying a few lures and attaching them to your pole prior to casting off.

If your fish are getting away, it means you are not high enough fishing level to fish there.

I found a good guide for levelling fishing here: http://wow.toshimo.com/viewtopic.php?t=273][/link]and

Scroll down a little bit - it's the Fishing and Cooking Guide 1 to 300 by Highlander that you want - both horde and alliance are covered. It's a good idea to level cooking at the same time since the fish will provide you with the mats you need.

Hope that helps!

When you first start fishing, and I mean at skill level 1, both the capital city and starting zone waters are tricky. What you need to do is buy a fishing lure and apply that to your fishing pole. This will temporarily buff your skill high enough to avoid losing your catches.

Just use a lure to get those first few points. Once your skill is high enough to not miss fish without lures, you can fish there at will. No need to move on to more advanced areas except for the better fish (has no effect on skill-up rate).

Try missing fish when your adjusted skill exceeds 500. /cry

Just to help - start with the shiny bobber(cheap). I started with it and sure enough started lvling up pretty fast. Don't lose faith. If you are in a guild see if you have any enchanters(lvl 145)...that can enchant your gloves with a +2 fishing buff.
Keep on fishing...you will lvl up really fast, just wasting a lot of time fishing instead of grinding. BUT IT IS WORTH IT!!
Depending on your server certain fish sell for a really healthy profit!

Also, side note, if you have cooking as a 2nd you can lvl up pretty fast cooking just about every fish you catch.

I rolled a Draenei Paladin and at level 5/6 when heading from the Crash Site into the Azuremyst Isle when I hit the fishing trainer. A nifty free quest gave me a lure and a fishing pole.

I then spent about 30 mins chatting to friends and fishing. Finishing up on Skill Level 62. with about 90 fish and 2 chests (both had crappy cloth items)

All off the second body of water I had encountered since starting.

Fish near the trainer and you can in theory get to 125 at level 10.

If you plan on levelling up fishing, you might as well make some money at it. Fish in areas that have oily blackmouth schools and sell the suckers at the AH. On my server they are in high demand and can sell for a couple gold or more per stack.

just like Evocables said the reagent fish sell really nice.....
Oily Blackmouths sell really good. Sagefish also will be a plus to use for healing and mana. However, they dont sell as good as Oilys but they will sell.

Plus, not sure if on your continent, Firefins sell really good to.
Both Oilys and Firefins, if one of your profs is alchemy, become useful to you in making potions and oils.
