Fish = Stonescale Eels
Ore = Adamantite

I don't know if better money fish will be found in the Outlands yet.

Ore has more use then Fish.
Fish are for pets, Cooks, Money
Ores are for Weapons, Armor, Blacksmiths, Quests and money.

Yeah, right.

In addition to being one of the best moneymakers in the game, fish are used to make Alchemical oils, which can be used for Enchanting, Tailoring, and in other potions.

Alchemy:
Fire Oil: (made from Firefin Snapper)
Component In:
  • Elixir of Firepower

  • Enchant Cloak - Lesser Fire Resistance

  • Elixir of Greater Firepower

  • Fire Protection Potion

  • Crimson Silk Shoulders

  • Crimson Silk Cloak

  • Crimson Silk Gloves

  • Blackmouth Oil:
    Component In:
  • Free Action Potion

  • Elixir of Waterwalking

  • Elixir of Water Breathing

  • Swim Speed Potion

  • Enchant Gloves - Fishing

  • Stonescale Oil:
    Used in Quests:
  • The Ectoplasmic Distiller

  • The eels themselves are used in: [quest] Craftsman's Writ - Stonescale Eel

  • Component In:
  • Elixir of Superior Defense

  • Greater Stoneshield Potion

  • Flask of Petrification

  • Flask of the Titans

    It's also worthwhile to remember that you can always fish. Sure, it's preferable to do it in the special pools that appear but you can do your fishing anywhere there's a body of water. Mining on the other hand is limited to veins and there may be heavy competition for those. If you can do mining in the off-peak hours you may have greater success, but on a high population server during peak hours you may go for a long time without finding any vein.

    I've caught Eels in Tanaris with a 225 skill level. Use lures if you aren't high enough to reach that level. (+100 lure if you're at 125, +75 lure if you're at 150)

    There is a vendor trash fish in Outlands (in a high level zone) that sells for 6g. That's 6g for 1.

    It doesn't have to be a high level zone. The vendortrash fish can be caught almost anywhere in Outlands, assuming there's water.

    I'd do both. As a secondary skill, fishing costs you nothing but a bag slot. Plus, you can do it anytime. Waiting for buddies to come raid? Find a pond. Waiting for the damn boat because you missed it by 10 seconds? Whip out that pole. The harbor at menethil is full of oily blackmouth and firefin. I usually pull two or three out waiting for a boat and at least one more waiting for the boat to launch. Mining is a moneymaker, period. Ore is (almost) everywhere. Put that find minerals radar on and go about your business.
