Being a skinner myself,I have to say there is nothing more annoying than sitting next to my fresh kill drinking and eating to restore....and some Joe Ahole runs up and starts skinning my kills...

Usually I just send a tell asking wtf he is doing....not that any of them has ever actually stopped their skinning :D

But if a corpse is lying there with noone around,i agree its free for all to take.

Personally I live by the rule,"if in doubt, ask first"...being polite doesnt cost me anything.

OP - if they leave the mob behind and look for another one, i go ahead and skin. i love it when people kill skinnable mobs before me and leave tons of them laying around for me to skin ^^

what i do hate is when fighting in a group and other members can also skin. there's absolutely no skinning order. some jerks will go ahead and skin even after i'd given my life/armor to killing the mob (lvl 28 warrior), or putting myself at considerable danger to help them kill a mob and they skin it anyway.

Omgosh! That stealing chest thing has happened to me so many times! I fight a mob, turn around, and see some jerk running away after having looted my chest that I was obviously fighting for.

As far as skinning, I am a skinner, and I wait until the person moves on to another kill before I skin. I haven't had a problem. No one has approached me and complained. I don't think they've even noticed. But I do make sure they move on first.

It is polite because suppose the person had to fight hard and has to sit down and drink/eat before skinning and then you take their skins? Not nice. Just wait. Free skins is worth a little waiting. :)

oh, when I'm in a group with other skinners I say, "Oh, hey, let's rotate." And they do. Often times, the person with the higher level allows the lower level to skin more often. And sometimes I give my better leather to the higher level person who just helped me kill an elite.

But rotating definitely helps even things out.

Wow if I had 1s for everytime I would fight whole mobs of skinnables in an area that was really tight with them and some bonehead would come up and start skinning while I was still fighting them, I would have enough coin for my epic mount training lol.

I remember one time I was in STV and this guy wasn't a skinner but would leave them unskinnable on purpose. I asked if he would mind completely looting them so that us people who do skinning could get at the leather. omg he chewed me out something fierce and told me to just go out and get my own kills becaue he wasn't going to let me steal from him. I asked him how it was stealing and got this as a reply instead, "I don't use leather and make my own money and so should you so bite me". Needless to say I spread the word to my guildies about him and whenever he would ask for help killing something in general chat I would make a comment about the situation. I haven't seen him in quite awhile I wonder if he finally gave up that toon?

I haven't asked, but what I normally do is wait until they're pretty far from the corpse. I never sneak up and skin while they're still near it.

There was one time when I was farming skins in Hillsbrad. Everytime I killed a Yeti, this paladin would run up behind me and try to get the jump on skinning it. This happened 3-4 times. Thankfully, I moved faster than her. I asked her if she was a skinner too and her response literally was "??". So I told her I'm a skinner and I'm killing yetis to get leather and she backed off. But man, up to that point she was right on my heels the whole time. I HATE that.

I have a couple of girls who are skinner's and miner's.

I always ask before skinning someone else's kill(s) because I know it ticks me off completely when someone comes and takes mine, especially when it is something I actually had to work to kill just so I could skin it.

For the mining, I usually end up just traveling around and mining while I explore and open up the map so there are not many people around but I do prefer to ask if someone is fighting near a node (unless they are opposite faction of course *grins wickedly*).

The more I think about it, I realized I had an encounter w/someone. She was mining in the area and was killiing creatures and leaving them all over the place. As she'd step away, I'd start skinning. At the end she says to me, "You're welcome." I got a little miffed, I admit it. I said to her, "Oh, you killed them just for me? How nice of you, thank you. I put these mine nodes here just for you." Never heard from her again. lol
