Neither.

I assume that you are not level 60.

If this is the case, wait. You will soon find yourself doing instances and raids and getting better gear than what you would buy or enchant. Thus, those options wasting money that you could be saving for your spells and mount/training at level 40 and level 60.

If you are level 60 you may as well do Instance raids and get Epic, then enchant that. If you are still leveling, once you get a weapon or piece of armour that you think you will be keeping for a while you could put a 5-10G enchant on that, depending on what level you are, if your still low level you might want to just keep updating your armour as you level and then once you reach 45+ start putting some 5-10G enchants on your gear.

Goodluck!

Questions that need to be answered:

1. How rich am I? If you have the gold to blow, why not do both?

2. How soon am I going to replace my stuff? If you are a level 60 in full T3, and are not planning on getting the xpac soon, then sure, go enchant your stuff. If you plan on getting better armor in the Outlands, then that's probably not the road you want to travel.

3. Am I going to stay at a low level for an extended period of time so I can cream the opposition in BGs? Yes, enchant your twink stuff, but buy the twink stuff first. Enchants are wasted on non-twink stuff at lower levels.

If you have the cash and are using certain items for a decent amount of time, knock yourself out.

If you have the cash but need to save for a mount or whatever, go for the +5 enchants. They are a TON cheaper. Also, do a shout over the trade channel for a person lving enchanting. You probably could get a few enchants for nothing but a small tip.
