#1 Jan 04 2007 at 8:38 PM Rating: Decent
Ok heres my problem I was in durotar and I happend across grey dots on my lil map in the top corner of my screen and it was during one of my many ore hunts and I was reading the book that came with my WoW game and the book said that the grey dots are underground ore deposits, now heres the thing how the heck does a miner get to it?!

it is most likely in a cave.

..or instance - found a grey mithril deposit inside a hut at Swamp of Sorrows, needless to say there wasn't a cave for miles, but ST was just across the way.

And some of the caves are pretty big, so the entrance could be far away...

Some of the "gray" mining nodes in southern Swamp of Sorrows are actually in a cave you enter from the Blasted Lands. It's the cave with all the Nethergarde Miners.

That Nethergarde Mine is literally a "gold" mine! It is my new favorite hotspot. In an hour I can make about 2g just in coin, have close to 100 Mageweave, many good-selling gray drops, and loads of Mithril and Small Thorium(which have dropped me quite a few Arcane Crystals lately!). Mobs are easy to fight one at a time and I've never seen another person in there fighting! I love that place. +Plus the chance to get those Draenyth Crystals to turn in for greens or blues!

But yeah, caves and mines are excellent places to find lots of ore.

You cant see mining spots that are inside an instance, if its grey its below ground. And in this case, as others said its Nethergarde mine fromthe blasted lands. If you head towards blasted lands from swamp of sorrows and take a slight left you will go right past the entrance to it.

What was driving me nuts in my eary miner's days were deposits that were not gray, but normal bright yellow dot on the map. Except that they were not to be seen anywhere. I concluded in the end that they were really hidded in the ground - i.e. a bug. But that is just a guess - any opinions?

Apparently there are a few buggy spots, especially where there are overlapping cave systems. In the dwarven cave complex in the Searing Gorge, I sometimes find a bright yellow spot on one level of the cave with no associated vein I can find, but I will find a vein in another cave higher or lower which shows no spot at all (not even grey). Dreadmaul Rock in the Burning Steppes also has three different caves which sometimes seem to have overlapping nodes - they will be grey in the cave you can mine them, and yellow in a cave above or below it. Even some of the ones above ground will sometimes appear as yellow spots inside the cave and grey spots outside it. And there is one spot I sometimes find in the Burning Steppes caves which seems to be inside one of the walls - when it is there, I can never find the vein on that level or any other level of the complex.

I found out that if U get close to the vien of ore that is hidden I can zero in on its location with the mouse by slowly moving the mouse over the area where the ore should be and if its really there ur mouse will change to a mining pick. I found a copper vien like that south of ambermills exactly on top of the mine on the mountain with the roads that circle it on the way to Hillbrad Foothills.

Talking about funny veins driving me nuts - not so long ago I found a copper vein that was visible from a distance, but when I got into the digging range it would disappear. When moving away it would pop up again. Took me quite a while to position myself exactly at the boundary where it would be still visible and in range to dig. Quite amazing.

omg that would have drove me nuts. I that copper vein on top of the mountain I was talking about, there is a cave in the mountain and I been in and out of the cave about 8 times killing collecting wool and mining the tin and silver that was in it. and when I was out side the mine the copper that was on top of the mountain would show up as a bright dot when out side of the cave and would disappear when I went inside it, so I contacted a GM and the GM found the node (since I was literaly standing on top of its location) and the GM said he found the node under the cave. So I asked him if there was 2 cave systems here since I been all around the area and only found the one cave, so I dont know if there is 2 cave systems there since the GM wasnt really helpful in sayin weather or not there was 2 cave systems, the GM just kept telling me the node was under the cave. I was looking for a simple yes or no about was there 2 cave systems not a buncha crap about its under the cave, thats what the GM kept telling me. If he would have just said yes there was 2 cave systems there I would have left it at that and began looking for the other cave but no. so hopefully they will make the node acessable from the top of mountain where the mineral finder shows it to be.

Spent 3 hours looking for a node. All i saw was like a huge wooden stock, i was stumped, 2 minutes later an orc on a wolf jumped on top the the wooden thing and mined it...
