You can go to 300 in fishing anywhere, regardless of the level of difficulty where you're trying to fish. If you're not interested in raising your cooking along with your fishing, you can sit in any newbie area with a body of water and fish your way to 300.

If you want to raise your cooking along with your fishing, follow this guide:

you can almost do that, but you still have to make some side trips. AT L20, you have to go to Booty Bay to buy the book that gets you past 150, and at L35, you have to go to Dustwallow Marsh to get the quest that gets you past 225. That quest makes you fish in Desolace, Feralas, Stranglethorn Vale, and the Swamp of Sorrows. You can't just sit in a newbie area until 300 - but you can return to the newbie area after buying the book and completing the quest. You won't make much money and your cooking skill will suck if you go back to the newbie area to skill up.

You'll need to go to the starter areas to get your skill in fishing up - try the lake in Tirisfall glades. You won't catch much worth keeping save for selling for a few copper but at least your skill will increase

This is for alliance side<however im sure there is a similar spot to do same thing on horde side.I just got to where i could cast into loch modan,Ran back an forth around the eastern edge and fished sagefish for about 2 hours. This got me to where i needed to make the hike to bootybay.Being new to game I dont have alot of high lvls to assist me at least not in this realm. So I jumped in the water from westfall and swam a bit away from shore as no enemys spawn here. There is no fatigue meter that pops up between westfall an bootybay,so 15 minutes later youll have your cookbook.Read it,go back to modan,225 in 1 hour =) good luck.As for jump to 225+,havent made that yet!Only lvl 34 atm.

I usually start fishing in Orgrimmar itself and get my skill up to 50-75 and buy the next level from the trainer right there. Then I go down to Ratchet and start fishing up and down the coast until I hit level 20 (since I always max out my fishing well before hitting level 20 on my Horde characters.) I go to Booty Bay for the book as soon as I hit 20 and max out my fishing in whatever areas I happen to be questing in.

I haven't spent as much time fishing on Alliance side but my Night Elves started fishing in Darnassis and then along the shoreline in Darkshore. There are a few nice little low-level fishing quests available in Auberdine as well. I have also taken them down to Ratchet since I'm on a PVE server and it's one of my favorite places to fish until I'm in my mid-20s at least.

Before you start fishing, make sure you purchase the cooking recipes of the fish you catch. You can level both tradeskills fairly quickly.

For beginners, you can fish in Orgrimmar or you can move to the Tauren starting village. That should get you to 50-75. I moved on when my cooking skill was maxed.
