Fishing for Essences of Water in Bay of StormsFollow

I have heard that it is possible to find elemental pools and fish for Essences of Water in the Bay of Storms. My mage will need ten of these in the near future for his Robe of the Archmage, so I am curious about how well the fishing method works.

Here are the precise questions:

(1) My fishing skill is 249 at the moment and I have +105 with pole and lure. Assuming I keep the same pole and lure, what fishing skill should I target before going to the Bay of Storms? Should I level to 300 in Tanaris first, or is there a lower skill level where I will still not miss many fish?

(2) Based on your experience, how many Essences would I see in an hour of fishing?

(3) Is this method more or less efficient than killing mobs?

Please note that I have enough gold to buy all essences needed for the robe, but I don't mind spending the time fishing/farming for these since I expect to get other interesting items in the process. I might also decide to do this with my hunter since he can mine while in the area. (His fishing level is similar)

To start do not even bother untill you have fishing maxed, even at 300, using fancy poles, glowie lines, lucky hats and enchanted gloves with a fish attractor, I still loose stuff.

The rate of fishing up the stuff depends on how farmed out the 4-6 nodes are. when I started doing this in april and it seemed that nobody knew of it yet, I woudl pull up about 5 a hr(with most of my time waiting for respawns and runnign to nodes.) The biggest kicker in this guy is that you Mage is not the best choice of fishermen. You will hit a wall and most likely be unhappy with the fact that some of the nodes can not be fished by you. Some of the nodes have no land to stand on(pisser about being alliance... for now). this means that the only alliance class that can farm the nodes are priest, the rest can not cast in to (at least)2 of the pools. Horde have it a little better, a shaman can use water walking and make the game eazer, not only for getting to the nodes, but fishing them.

Lastly, with so meny bots arround do you even get them from mobs? my luck is just crappy, and most of the mobs are super duper camped out. I guess if you had to you could go "At War" with the waterloards and farm them too.

Thanks for the fast response and helpful information. (RATE-UPZ11111) I will stay in Tanaris for a bit to level my fishing. I unfortunately to not have a high level priest or shammy available for endless hours of fishing, so I guess I will be limited to a few nodes.

They are just like pools of fish, but found in Azshara, and you can catch Elemental Water and other things like that from them. You can read more about it at Thalen's Guide to Elemental Water fishing.

Once my fishing is at 300, I plan to try this.
