Tribal Leatherworking or Alchemy??Follow

#1 Oct 01 2006 at 1:07 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a leatherworker about to ding lvl 35. Which means I can train master then tribal (I'm a druid) But now I'm wondering if that's going to be such a good idea.

Looking at my invintory, only about 2-3 pieces of equipment is stuff I made. Gem-studded belt for healing in beast forms, gloves, and barbaric shoulders. All things considered, I was wondering if maybe I should just switch to alchemy and grind back up since I have the next 2 days off and nothing better to do.

Can anyone with tribal leatherworking tell me if it's worth it or am I better off just buying off AH or going for instance drops?

I barely use the stuff I can make now, and as for alchemy, well I can't use potions in beast form but I could make some pretty useful stuff for me and my friends, so I was just wondering what both sides had to say on the matter. I'm stuck on the fence and I need some of you to throw things at me until I fall on one side or the other.

i went up to 300 tribal and i agree with you, i barely wore anything i made either on my hunter (pre-40) or my druid. i dont even see much that a rogue could wear beyond what he would go to instances for. yes there are a few pieces, but you can still get good stuff from instances if you choose to do that. eg even at the early levels when stats don't matter much, alliance rogues still spend a heck of a lot of time trying to get defias gear rather than wear something a LW makes.

i think the satisfaction comes in having a few characters and being your own little trade shop. if you need enchanted leather or refined deep rock salt one day, you'll be glad your LW can make it easily.

alternatively, if your new warrior needs some potions to help him get an edge, having an alchemist in the wings is great.

when you have 3-4 characters, you can have a fairly decent self-sufficience.

it's pretty easy to get 4 characters to 35 to get max 300 trade skill, while one may only really be at 60 supplying all the others with mats. eventually of course, you'll play the others and get them to 60 or closer to it.

so to answer your question, what kind of satisfaction can you get from it? i think potions may be more useable to your character(s). but herbs may sell more often and you find that actually making potions isn't that useful for generating money.

you end up really just selling herbs you collected, and not even making that many potions either. when you hit 60, you probably won't want to spend your time collecting herbs to use, so then you spend money at the AH buying herbs. this will get costly if you make potions for you and your friends.

Thanks for responding.

I got money for the time being so I don't really need to be selling herbs. I got an assassin's blade of a SFK run and since we didn't have a rogue and I won the roll, I just sold it. (Some guy offered me 200g for it, i only started the auction at 10g, guess he really wanted it to offer that much to take it off a 24 hour auction) so I kept 100 for myself and then sent the rest to those I'd grouped with.

I'll probbaly switch to alchemy I think, since usually every time I'm gathering mats to make a piece or armor for myself I find a drop thats better. So I'll just put it off.

Besides I like the idea of being a street pharmasist.
