I recently dropped my blacksmithing skill in favour of engineering. Blacksmithing was doing me no good, as found it easier to find better items from mobs/instances or of the AH. And as am not in a guild, had no need to make anything for people. At first i thought i had made the wrong decision, but not anymore. I can now use dynamite/bombs to draw tricky mobs(and the damage helps).

It also helps me in PVP, especially since i either run into hunters or more than one enemy players - since i can now lay landmines, call on a mechanical dragon/reaper. Or shrink them, death ray!!!! As a pally, having any sort of ranged attack seems to flummox them, and delight me no end.

What i would like to hear from other engineers is, since there is little call for mechanical devices on the AH and all the ore i mine ends up getting used - how do you level up your skill and make money. Or any advice on how you use devices/trinkets against foes or for your team?

Any advice would be appreciated(helpful advice, that is).

The bombs and grenades are the single easiest way to level up engineering IMO. This is because of the few mats required for it. You're probably not going to be making much money as an engineer. You could try selling EZ throw dynamite or bullets. The thing from engineering that will help you the most in groups is the repair bot. It's schematics arent too hard to get. They are in BRD by the Golem Lord. Also semi-useful in groups would be the bombs/grenades because of the AoE. This is only situational though. If your in it for cash then i would suggest switching but it is really useful in soloing and other things.

Yeah you wont make much money with engineering.

I agree the leveling part is the worst because you dont get anything you could sell if you really wanted too.

The only advice i can give you is to level the skill up to 300 as quickly as you can so that you can start using the ore that you mine to make a profit.

And let me just its definately not cheap to get from 275-300.

Luckily for me, i have a main character to fund my alt and it makes it much easier for me to get the mats i need.

I make quite a bit of money as an engineer.

1. Just start making gizmos. Make'm, use'm. Get your skill up.
2. Cultivate relationships with hunters, especially gun hunters. Occasionally rogues and fighters too, if they aren't engineers but use guns, they will need ammo. But hunters go through ammo like water.
3. Scopes. Every type, start making and selling them in the AH. They will sell, even the crude scope.
4. Scour the AH for schematics. If you get Goblin Jumper Cables XL or Deepdive Helmet or Parachute Cloak, that means someone else DOESN'T. I learn the schematic and then sell the product to other engineers. They don't care if they made the item, as long as they can use it.
5. Got mining as well? Metal bars sell, because after a short while, smelting does not give you skill points and blacksmiths, who go thru lots of metal, don't want to waste their time on smelting.

engineering is more of a untility profession than a money maker. BS doesn't make much money while leveling up, but if you get 300 in it and specialise in something that there aren't many of in the server, you can make a ton. My old server, Frostmane, there were a shortage of swordsmiths, so any 300 swordsmith BS could make a ton of money. That was on frostmane though.
