Hey,

My main account is a lvl 44 tauren druid.
At first I had herbalism / alchemy, but when I came closer to lvl 40 i decided to give up alchemy, because i wanted to save money for my mount and I had the experience I could sell the herbs for much more then the pots I made with them.
Once I was 40 and I had my mount I picked up enchanting.
My herbalism is around 255 and I managed to get my enchanting up to 230.
I spend all the money I make with herbalism on enchanting, so I never have much money left. It is getting really expensive to get my enchanting up now, and I am wondering if there is no cheaper way to get it higher.
I sometimes do instance runs for green's (like soloing WC /SFK), but i can't really use the maths i get from disenchanting them, because most of the time its just strange dust or magic essence.
I can't buy items on AH, because the maths I need can only be gained from quite expensive (for me) items.
What should I do?
I really don't wanna give up my enchanting or herbalism, so is there a way to get my enchanting up cheap? And can anyone give me some advise for making good money with herbalism with a skill from around 255?
What herbs sell easily and for a good price on the AH? And where is the best place to look for them?

Hope you can help me,

Shadow

Why yes, it is in the sticky, the first thred on this forum. The awnser is not to take up enchanting when you are level 40, try at 55(if your goal is to actualy enchant).

The other soltuion is to get yourself an alt, and start working a tradeskill to melt for mats, I send all my extra cloth to my level 35 mage who is a 300 tailor, with cloth i can craft greens and disenchant them. If i am feeling like fighting beasts, i use my shaman and skin them when done, i craft greens and send them off to be melted.

It dosent have to be you!!!!! so you dont have to have a alt to do it, make a buddy who can craft items out of the cloth you have, and then you Disenchant them. One of the big reasons folks recomend takeing up enchanting at 60 is that the range of instances you can solo is much bigger. As a general rule a instance can be soloed if you have 20 levels on the boss(some instances and some classes are much sooner) so a level 60 can solo there way though SM, and then needs to work with the limits implyed in parties.... they have to share the drops. a level 40 taking up enchanting will sputter out and have to start sharring much sooner, meaning the cost goes up overall, becasue you have to share.

The point that you should have looked in to it before takeing it up at 40 is moot, honestly you are too far in to stop now, you pretty much have to accapt you are a enchanter.

The most imeidate solution is to farm herbs and cloth like crazy and befrend a talior.

This is kind of a arrogant stamtent(not trying to offend), there are a total of 4 enchants from 230 to 300 that do not use a dust or a essencese. complaining becasue you do not get a shard is just rediclous, they are not used as much as dust and esscne. If you want to complain... do it about the type of dust/essence you get, not that they are dust and essnce.

Stop trying to level your enchanting, and sell mats, dust/shards/essence as well as flowers. kind of stinks you gave up a free gravy train for enchanting, becasue transmutes make me a killing and i dont have to farm or anyting. but the bottom line is selling mats is how you make money.

the more dangerous the place, the more valuable the herbs are, dreamfoil and icecap are always in high demand..... but you will loose money on repari bills if you try to get them now, seems you just need to level befoer moving on.

Generally essences and dust are what you use for skillups, not shards. Not only are they much more common than shards, but they're cheaper in the AH too.

If you want higher level mats, LFG for instances with loot appropriate to your enchanting mat needs and hope you win alot of greed rolls. You're not going to raise enchanting very far with WC greens.

Um, talking about arrogant statements.. Your ignorance is showing. He said "its just strange dust or magic essence", meaning.. You got it.. Strange Dust and Magic Essence! He didn't complain about not getting shards.. He complained that the dusts/essences he acquires from the greens in instances he can solo at the moment are only dusts/essences that he can't use to skillup his enchanting. Making arrogant statements about someone else without actually reading what they said is just ridiculous.

To the OP.. Enchanting is very doable at lower levels, it just takes a bit more work. You're on the right path -- soloing instances for greens --, you just have to keep at it. Sell those Strange Dusts and Magic Essences that you can't use. Sell your Herbalism materials. (Sorry, can't really help you there. I'm not an Herbalist.) DE your BoPs and Soulbound items, and keep the mats that you can use now and in the future. Once your Enchanting gets high enough that you're not using that particular mat anymore, sell some of your stock. (I always keep a little of everything around anyway, even Strange Dusts! Never know when I'll need it!)

Even if you get your Enchanting to 300 tomorrow, you're still not really a successful Enchanter. Most end-game enchants are obtained through raids or faction rep, which you really can't do effectively until your 50s (faction) or even until 60 (raids). Even then, it's very time-consuming either way. To grind faction (5 different factions: Cenarion Circle to Friendly [2 Enchants], Zandalar Tribe and Timbermaw Hold to Honored [2 Enchants each], Argent Dawn and Thorium Brotherhood to Revered [2 and 3 Enchants, respectively]) will take lots of work, gold, and mostly time. There are 2 Enchants, I think, that drop in Molten Core, one of the first end-game instances. There are 9 Enchants, I think, that drop in AQ20, which is further into the end-game progression. And these drops are not abundant in the least. The point of this long-winded paragraph? Being a "complete" Enchanter is not something you can do fast, even at level 60. It will take months and months before you get close, unless you just get really lucky. ;)

So, my advice to you is:
  • Keep DEing those greens from low-level instances.
  • Keep DEing your BoPs and Soulbound items.
  • Sell mats that you can't use now or in the future to skillup.
  • Check the auction regularly for undercutters selling greens (to DE) and mats (to resell and/or use).
  • Try to skillup on items that you can sell (mana oils, wizard oils, wands) IF they break even/make a profit. (Personally I made a lot of mana and wizard oils for me and my hunter duo friend to use, which in turn made our leveling easier, which in turn made us accomplish more faster and get items faster. I also auctioned some oils for profit.)

Thanks a lot for your responses. They helped me a lot.
I think I will try to do it the way jyneefur said above.

PS: I also thank you for correcting Capitolgs, because I don't really like to be called arrogant for something I did not say.
