Right now my warrior is doing skinning and herblism to make some good money. But after skinning all the corpses up to 16 I realized that the leather I get sells for nothing at all and since I dont have leatherworking I cant make it into something more usable. I was thinking of dropping it for alchemy but im torn between the 2...
What do you think?

skinning inst useluss most of the time its probably your realm if i were you and you realy cant sell the leather start alchemy your better off as you will make money from the later porions anyway
Keep working with skinning. When you start skinning medium leather is when the money will start rolling in. Medium leather was going for 1g a stack on my server this weekend.
Much later also...you can get good brownie points for skinning high-level mobs in instances, things like the cap of the scarlet savant and core leather items become available to you...if you have a high-end LW you can trust with 30g a piece's worth of leather...or simply save it for the greatness of your guild, then they can make the things for you for free as all guilds should, IMO...I hate guilds and guildmates that'll charge you for something as simple as linen, just so you can skill up! That's what happened to Malifras' last guild, the Archaic Travelers...
I loved having skinning in UBRS. I would make 10-15 gold off skinned leathers and scales alone, besides coin drops and random sellables. Other than that, well, it makes fighting beasts more profitable. Plus, if you save up your rugged leather, you can get armor kits made for you to hand in for darkmoon faire tickets, which results in an epic.

I'd agree with what everyone else has said - stick with it and the money will start to come in. Even at just level 43 I make a couple of gold per hour (total SWAG, since I've never actually added it up). Just as important, it doesn't cost anything. At lower levels, a non-gathering profession is a money pit, but skinning will always be bringing in money.
Using two gathering skills, skinning and herbalism, I had 100g when I hit 40and was able to by my mount, train a ton of new spells and have money left over. Now I'm 43 and have 100g in the bank again without really trying.

Skinning is far from useless. At your level, you're probably getting a lot of light leather. I find that this sells relatively quickly at the auction house, even though it doesn't sell for much money per stack. The trade-off is that skinners can get leather from many of the mobs they kill (except humanoids, with exceptions, birds and spiders). Thus, you make up for the low return from each stack by getting and selling many stacks. It adds up over time. At lower levels, the production professions (alchemy, engineering, leatherworking, blacksmithing and enchanting) are more of a money sink than a money maker.
Also, at later levels, yu'll find that different leather may sell for a better profit than it currently makes you. See what sells well on the auction house. FOr example, I found that hides rarely sold on my server, while black dragonscale made me a pretty penny,and even rugged leather sold for a couple of gold per stack. Multiply that by the number of stacks you can get while exping, and it can amount to some pretty gold lining your pockets!

I think that saying skinning is useless is just plain silly.
