try a gathering proffession if you want to drop your skills...sometimes its also good to find some time away from the tradeskill madness...go out and level for a bit - do some quests...you'll have money to spend in no time...

btw, ohmikegod, WHAT IS IT with you and fishing? seems like every other post that needs help with money or tradeskills you say three words:

Quote:
learn to fish.

yes fishing can be profitable...but it isn't the do all end all, is it?

You're crazy :P

It's because
  1. what other profession can get you 20G/hour at level 25? OK, you might equal that by sitting and monitoring the AH 24/7, but where do you get your seed money?
  2. It's relatively safe - you might get attacked by other players on a PvP server, but you can find places where you are safe from mobs.
  3. If you have professions that are money sinks, fishing can get you past the rough spots by supplying gold for mats so you can level that profession.

edit. My sanity has always been in doubt, but not usually about gold.

fishing is very time consuming...the only thing that's really worth your while in fishing is deviates. They sell a gold a pop cooked, or 75s ea. uncooked. Yes, yes the stonescale eel and blackmouth and firefin are also useful, but only to a certain number of people, primarily alchies.

btw...where do you fish for firefins o, fishing guru?

Edit: If you need money just go quest, or level...usually just by running around and killing stuff and hauling it back to town you can make plenty of money. And when you've quested while doing it, it becomes even more lucrative.

Yes it is....Why? Consumbables, between Free Action Potion,Elixir of Superior Defense,Greater Stoneshield Potion,Flask of Petrification and Flask of the Titans fish get used silly. This dose not even cover the day to day use of sub sixty consumables or the money to be found in the silly disguise biz(deviate fish).

Some stuff is added and reduced dependent on the instance, but the following is raid fule(raids would grind to a hult without them)
DreamFoil
Icecap
Golden samsan
mountan silversage
plaugbloom

and....

Stonescale oil.

without those a majority of the potions/flasks would not be avaiable to a raid.

since the herbs can be best gatherd by a rogue or a duid, that leaves only the huge time consumer of fishing, and folks are willing to pay to have you do it.

The long and short is that if your server has raiding guilds fishing will make you cash.(some servers it makes more than others)

I recently dropped my Alchemy skill in order to pick up Enchanting (just as a change of pace). However, I had Herbalism raised above 200 in order to make Alchemy quite easy to do. Now, I am using Herbalism to collect stacks of plants to sell at the AH or over the Trade channel in cities to help raise money while I level my Enchanting skills. You'd be surprised how many Alchemists would rather buy plants from the AH then try to run around and find them (it's quite time consuming).

So what? Using time is part of the game. You can use it to make money, you can use it for questing, you can use it for PvPing. There isn't a whole lot of difference. You could just as easily say "Questing is very time consuming..." and come to the same conclusion.

On your server. On mine they sell for less than a gold per stack. Savory Deviate Delight sells for about 3 times the raw price, so getting the recipe is worthwhile.

On my server, Stonescale eels = 18-22G/stack, Firefin=1.5G/stack, Oilies=2G/stack.

I primarily get Firefin from The Wetlands and Dustwallow Marsh.

In general, this doesn't make a lot of money at low levels. It becomes more lucrative after level 50, when you get better drops.

Fishing as said in other post won't help you. The profit is to low, for expample a Hunter is is a good sec. skill to feed the pets.
1: Quest alot, take the loot and sell minor items to a NPC and higher items sell them at AH.

2: get a proffesion: get a few good main proffesions and search for good recepies or patterens. (see allakhazam for proffesions choise.)

3: Kill alot of creatures.

4: go to the right side of the main site page, drop 23 dollar on a bank account and recieve 300G ;)

With other words, work for it like we all do.....
;-)

Take a Hunter like me, these really kost money!

I agree with Mike for the most part- however, I'm going to play Devil's Advocate.

Mike states that on his server, the fish used in alchemy sell particularly well. However, on Uldum, the price of the same fish is considerably lower. However, it's still worth the time for me. Why? Let me do a chart:

Server: Duskwood Uldum
Stonescale Eel 18-22G 11-14G
Oily Blackmouth 2G 1-1.5G
Firefin Snapper 1.5G 40-60s

However, the Fire Oil that I can make from those Firefins sells at a much higher rate (I believe it was 1.8-2G per stack). The Blackmouth Oil is much the same. Stonescale eels tend to sell much faster than the Stonescale oil, but the potions that it is used in go for a good price. Thus, especially for alchemists, it's worth it to fish. Also, before level 50, it's a decent income- there's a minimum of bother (for example, when mining or gathering herbs, you often have to fight your way to each resource, while when fishing you can fish in the same area, or move up and down the coast to find schools of fish).

Now that I'm almost 60 there are other ways to make money, but fishing is relaxing to me, and it helps bring in money. It's always good to keep your options open, and keep an eye on your server's market. Note supply and demand for items. Sometimes it's obvious (like gathering professions- on established servers there's almost always a high demand for crafting materials at the auction house). Other times, it's less obvious (such as deviate delights selling better for Leawond than they do for Mike). If you want some other free advice, just check the link in my sig.

You're almost correct. The amounts were for my previous server (Scarlet Crusade). Duskwood is a low pop fairly new server, and prices are more on a par with Uldum on the Alliance side and half that on the Horde side. As a hordie, I tried selling money fish at the neutral auction houses, but had no takers at all. I think people don't go there for much at all.
