I was thinking about ditching herbalism for the ever popular goblin engineering. I want to make my hunter more viable in instances, i know the the goblin jumper cables arent a guarantee, but i was wondering on average how well they work?

Plus i would like to add in the extra damage that dynamite adds if we pull too many adds, what i have in mind is that room in BRD where the guys respawn so quickly. I find in groups that when im a member we almost never have a rogue, im expected to be all the dps we should need besides the warrior and maybe a mage/lock.

To me i would be happy if they worked 1 out of every 3 times. And i would feel let down if they did not perform at that level.

Yes, I know my shaman has engineering, BUT i never made the jumper cables as she has gnomish, and why would i need them when i have rezzing that works all the time? LOL - so please dont act like im stupid for asking.

Thanks in advance for the info!

You can normally find out about an item by looking it up. If you read the comments, then you will find several opinions about how well the cables work. Here is the link and one of the more detailed comments:

http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=7148

Quote:
----GOBLIN JUMPER CABLES----

The Facts:

*jumper cables bring people to life
*they have a better success rate if the rez-ee does not release spirit
*they can be made by engineers at lvl 165, and ONLY through a schematic.
*fused wiring can be found in AH(for around 10g) or through destroying a broken Basic Target Dummy(10% drop rate)
*flasks of oil can be found in the AH(around 50s), or by killing mobs(the westfall mechs are a good choice)
*Since the last patch, these cables DO NOT explode if they fail

My Experience:

I have had them for about a week now, and as an instance runner, they are unfriggin believable. I have used them 5 times and have had successes 5 times. Everytime Ive used them the person Im rezing has NOT RELEASED SPIRIT!!! Pretty much if I'm 5 for 5, don't release spirit, and good luck. Rezing priests as a Rogue is kick ***.. hehe..

Some of the older comments are more pessimistic, so Blizzard may have buffed the success rate along with eliminating the cables' explosive tendencies. Please also note that Goblin Engineering is not needed, just Engineering 165. This means you could experiment with your Shammy before swapping professions on the hunter.

Thanks for putting that up, Im reluctant to read old posts about items, because i have read ones from complete idiots and had undesireable results.

If i recall correctly, The last time i was told to post and just ask if the post is old or seems from an idiot. Im not saying that post is like that, BUT im just so reluctant to take 100% advice from it.

Not to mention - It seems too good to be true.

Thats why i ask here.

Well thanks since you confirmed the post is correct - But if you were only posting because it was listed under the item, then let me just say i would like a real opinion about the item, recently. No hurt intended.

This is supersticous(SP) BS, Not directed at reednut... at the poster that posted that.

My luck with standard jumpercables rolls arround 55-60% success rate, the rate is the same with or without release(the poster just had a hard time finding a body once so they made some crap up)I have had this rate since DAY ONE of having cables, thats december of 04.

As a note, even gnomish engineers can make the cables, dont be fooled by the name(there is a gnomish named item that dose not require a spec to make either[Gnomish Cloaking Device]). The snag comes at the Jumper Cables - XL, those can be made by only goblin spec engineers. The cables -XL have a better success rate, for me it hangs arround 75%. lastly remember both kinds are BoE, so you dont have to make them... in days gone by the cables would break, and you had to remake them, but that is a thing of the past so even getting the scorll for them is silly(if you see it cheap pick it up but dont break the bank getting it). Enjoy and wait till you find the new guy who says "Hunters can Rez?"

Well this hunter may be able tooo....
LOL - thanks for the real comment i knew that 100% success was not right. It couldnt be.

Thank god i wont have to buy another schematic either, I have both of the schematics on my shaman but i didnt make them because obviously i wont be using them on her.

And as far as being superstitious, ehhh im not fooled by that. IF they work they work, its more like the game puts a random yes or no. yes they work this time or no they do not. And i was just wondering is it more times yes or more times no.

It seems like a good deal to take up the goblin engineering. I think i will do that. Since i cant recall the last time i used herbalism it cant hurt.

if you are just about to choose and have a lot of .... time on your hands, there is a new hottness.

Since the changes in LW and Engineering, it is possible to get the items from both trees of the craft. Level up Eng to 200, pick gnomish and build all the BoP items (the key is the death ray, but battle chicken never hurt either. then drop engineering, and relevel it, picking Goblin this time. This lets you have all the gnomish stuff that is made only once, and the goblin consumables(that you still have to have the spec to make more).Of corse this plan only works if you havent dumped a lot of cash in to rare plans(like high end scopes like the sniper scope plans[average 25 gold on my server]).

AWW i didnt think about that!!! Nah im only ditching the herbalism. Im gonna keep alchemy. Since i havent even started the engineering yet, I am gonna do that, start out with gnome and then make everything and then switch over to goblin.

That is such an awesome idea. :)

Its gonna take forever to do that, but its worth it for sure.
Thanks for the ideas.

Not nearly as bad as you think, Bullets and bombs, focus on the stuff with the low mat cost, if you look at the skilllist(here on alla) you will see that at 2 times in the progression to about 240, there are times that you can get skill adds off of making goods(in advance) stuff like copper tubes(bad example) and then when you are done, you can use the copper tubes to level something else(actualy a few pages back somebody requested a guide and calbar posted one, worth looking for) you will find that if you are not looking to use any stuff(and most liley you wont be on the early stuff), but instead just level the craft that it is quite affordable.

Lastly remember that even the low level bombs provide a stun, I find little as amusing as when i use a Rough Copper Bomb to stun a level 60 caster in mid cast... not long but it is kind of nice.

Enjoy,

PS.
One example of prime levein is Copper Modulator and the Target Dummy, you can make 20 Copper Modulator at eng 65, that can take you to eng 85 then use the 20 Copper Modulator to make 20 Target Dummy(can be used to farm Fused Wireings... big money), that can take you to 105.... look for this type of deal as you level and you will be shocked how eazy the first 200 points come.

Im sure that since it will be my 2nd time through engineering that it will be much easier for me, plus i have plenty more low level mats. So thats always a good thing, i wont have to buy much.

Well thanks for your help Capitolg - you made this as painless as it gets.
