At level 43 paladin now I'm currently at 250 mining & 240 blacksmith and find blacksmithing rather useless. I am thinking of dropping blacksmith and picking up enchanting. Is that a good move? or should I drop both and go skinning and enchanting?

Make heaps of low level green items in BS, then when you have heaps, ditch BS and go to enchanting.

Skinning is a great farming trade...but paired with enchanting ...might make things a bit difficult. If you are just using the enchanting to DE items this would work. If you actually want to level it, I would pair it with a craft that can make greens to DE.

Also, have you thought of Skinning and mining? Your mining is leveled, and skinning doesn't run on the same tracker. A good source of income, even though it doesn't provide finished materials.

If you have mining, you could also pick up engineering. Many find its fairly involved and challenging, but it can be rewarding.

If you want to take a different profession than smithing because you want something fun, engineering is worth looking into. Lots of toys and lots of things that go boom, including some of the toys.

If you want to take up enchanting for the big bucks, keep in mind that it will suck up your income while you are leveling it. And to get the enchants that pull in the big bucks you’ll mostly have to do some high end instances and/or grind for reputation with various groups.
