I've just recently decided to make a alt. I have the proffesions i need on other chars such as engineering, blacksmithing ect. But what i dont have is alot of money.

I was thinking of echanting and skinning (im just gonna be selling enchanting mats on AH, not actually be an enchanter). Would i be making more money if i changed skining to mining or Herbalism? Thanks to all who reply!

1. herbalism

2. mining

3. skinning

but that's just in my own opinion. fadeleaf sells for 10-15g/stack on my server and a stack of swiftthistle goes for about 10g. and at later lvls you can farm dreamfoil and mountain silversage in azshara. herbalism = cash in tons :>

While using disenchanting as a gathering skill is not a bad idea, it’s somewhat situational. Lower end dust and such is not going to get you very much money. So you won’t get much income from selling supplies in the AH as you level up your character. Even at higher levels it’s not all that great for a gathering skill unless you do a lot of instances where you can get your hands on blue items to disenchant. I’d suggest taking up two regular gathering skills until at least level 40. That is unless you plan to send items to be disenchanted from your higher level characters. But again, unless you have a decent supply of magic items to disenchant the other gathering skills are likely to supply you with more money.

As for skinning vs. mining and herbalism, skinning makes less money per stack but the stacks are much easier to come by. So you make your money from skinning by selling in volume. It’s a good, steady income but you’re not likely to see large sums of money coming in all at once.

Between mining and herbalism, I’d say mining will make you more money when you first start out. Copper bars sell for insane prices for their level. But at higher levels I’d say that herbalism will make you more money. Herbs are certainly much easier to find than thorium. At least they have been from my experience.

I think the enchanting thing would depend on what level your main is. My main is level 60, but I have a level 18 rogue that I use as an AH mule and disenchanter. My main mails drops to the alt, who then tries to sell them on the AH. If they don't sell, he disenchants them and puts the mats on the AH. High-level enchanting materials can go for good money.

Works pretty well for me.

what are your other characters' classes, levels, professions and skill levels?
i find it very efficient to have a double gather main with crafting alts.

if you're levelling your alt, I see no reason why you should learn enchanting on that character then. Make another alt, get to level 5, get to nearest AH, and just use that character to disenchant. You will miss out on a few BoP dis's maybe, but you can more than make up for that in other ways.

There's an increased demand for refined salt (leatherworking) and mooncloth (tailoring). If you're levelling the character to 35 then either would be a fine choice to hook into that revenue stream.

For disenchanting, any old mailbox alt can do it.

There is a days-long cooldown on the salt shaker, mooncloth creation, and arcanite transformation, which reduces the revenue stream to a low amount - only a few gold per day. That's why I stick to fishing.
