My friend wanted to make a warlock and he cant decide if he is going to choose herb/alchemy or min/eng. He is going to PVP a lot.

what does he want the tradeskills for? To make money? To outfit himself? To help his guild? Each of these will provide a different answer, and some are mutually exclusive.

He needs to look at
1) Materials. Can he gather them himself, and if not, how much will it cost?
2) Skill levels. If he wants to make stuff for himself, what skill level is needed to provide the best equipment for his level? What will it take to get to that level?
3) Quality. Is the stuff he makes the best available? Can he do better buying at the Auction House than what he can make?
4) Guild needs. Is there an existing <insert trade here> in the guild already?

If you are going to PVP - take the engineering.

Potions are useless when you die a lot!! I would know, i have both professions almost up to 300 on each.

Plus any potion you could ever want you can get an equal item out of engineering.

Swiftness potion = rocket boots
ect...

plus you get so many other neat items and dynamite you cant go wrong.

Good point on the dying part, but playing the devil's advocate...

Many engineering items are only useful if you're an engineer. Potions can be used by anyone, and higher-level potions and herbs go for good money on the AH.

I have to agree though, lots of cool engineering items. Just depends on what you're looking for from a trade skill.

I have a file that i use soely for engineering and i would say to get it over herb/alch. Because at higher lvls of engineering you get good explosives and can make cool things. Such as.... at lvl 150 engineering you can make fireworks. and who wouldnt want that?

Read the sticky. Class really does not matter when choosing trade skills. "Best for a warlock" is generally the same as "best" for a warrior, or a mage, or...etc. Choose two gathering skills and add in fishing cooking and first aid.
