Relvling skinningFollow

So I dropped skinning yesterday on my main for engineering. I decided to powerlvl the craft. Got it to about 125 and saw that I might not have been ready for the change.

So now I have skinning back after dumping 12g into engineering. I think I'll be happier with gathering professions on my main until I get to 60 or so. Anyway, now I have to relvl it. I had it to around 280 so I'm going to have to go back to lower zones in order to relvl.

I'm wondering how long it will take. I think in order to skin things around lvl 40 I need a skill of 200-220 or something around there.

P.S. Feel free to criticize and name call. I already know what I did was pretty stupid.

I recently dropped 300 skinning off my druid to take enchanting to 265 so he could make Smoking Heart of the Mountain, a bind on pickup trinket for enchanters. I dropped enchanting as soon as I made my trinket; I already have a 300 enchanter on my account, and took up skinning again. I leveled skinning from 1 to 300 in one day.

You will have to start in a newbie area when you first pick up your skill. But there’s a simple trick to use for leveling skinning on a high level character. Divide your skinning skill by five and that’s the level of beast you should be killing to have the best chance for a skill gain. For example, if your skinning skill is 145 you should be killing level 29 beasts to skin.

So just skin in one area as long as you are getting good skill gains. Once your points start slowing down do the division and see if you should be killing higher level mobs. Then it’s just a mater of figuring out which zone to go to for that level beast. And don’t forget you can also skin things like Worgen and Yeti.

if you're killing the mobs to get to 300, prob 8-9 hours. if you're following behind others who kill the mobs, round 3-4. Skinning is the fastest to level and put it at that. (unless you have tons of gold to spend in which it's one of the production skills.) just keep skinning corpses that are orange and you're garanteed skinning 1 pt each time. heck be nice and run lowbies through wc while you're at the barrens (if you're hord) half the mobs can be skinned and perfect deviate scales are always good for ah. (or leatherworking)

Skinning is the fastest to level when you are just doing it while playing. However, it goes much slower now than it used to. Took me a LOT of skins to get the points post-280. I leveled skinning during the AQ farming era, so I was killing a lot of random crap anyway, like raptors in Stranglethorn and later Un'goro. It took at least as long as I would hope to spend leveling herbalism. The only bright side is that you aren't in contest with anyone else for spawns.

Actually, that’s not quite true. Skinning is the one profession where you can perform your profession on something orange and not get a skill point for it. When I noticed that happening I thought my character was bugged. But when I posted about it I was told it was working as intended. Even without getting a point with every orange skin it’s still the fastest profession to level when not throwing money at it.
