Take your skill level and divide it by 5, that is the level monster you need to kill. So if you are skill level 235 then the highest beast you can skin is a lvl 47. At that level you need to move on to Tanaris or Feralas maybe.

Yes you get to skin dragons, the best place to skin dragons outside of Blackrock Spire is Azshara, they drop dragonscales and rugged leather, but you need to be in the upper 50s for that.

Currently I skin in Feralas, 40+. I get mostly thick leather and the ocassional heavy leather, which once i get 6 of I can make 1 more thick leather with the help of leatherworking. Pretty soon in the late 40s (currently level 42) I'll start making that thick leather into rugged and getting rugged leather of the beasts I kill, so I recommend coming to Feralas.

Heere's what i did.

I was 35 at about a little over 230. A 45 warrior,at the time, needed some leather for Advanced Targets in engineering so we set out to the bad lands. Killed cats and wolfs that are 38-42ish. That really boosted my skinning cuz we would do a run for about 2-3 hours and get a lot of leather.

My advice, get a warrior 45+ to help. After he kills one u can loot and skin while he runs off to kill another one. Also, while ur killing and skinning and looting tiger meat, keep the meat, It'll help with cooking also. Make sure u have a high lvl first aid if ur not a druid o a preist. The warrior will thank u for it. By 35 i had Mageweave Bandaids (235 i wana say). Reason is, there are humaniod giant type mobs in and around Dustbelch Grotto at the lower let of the badlands map. They drop Mageweave. They also drop a lot of silk too. Keep in ur bag Heavy Mageweave, Mageweave, and Heavy Silk bandaids. Dependin on the situation u dont always need the biggest and badist one. Heavy Silk does 800 HP, Mageweav does 1109 HP, and Heavy Mageweave does 1300 somethin HP.

By doing the above my skinning is now 300. I hit 300 skinning when i was 40 in tarnins. My cooking hit 300 when i was 40 cuz of the tiger meat and i fished a lot.

Now all i ota do is just get higher in lvls and wait for the warrior to get off his low lvl rge and mid lvl hunter and lvl up so i can et ruged leather and arm black dragons. (he's 52)

Im 42 now with a 40cat and 41 gorilla, stupid sig.

Yep, you need to skin beasts of level 47+ (235/5) to get better leather. There is thick leather after heavy, then comes the rugged stuff. As AP says, skinning dragonscales used to be a lucrative business. But now, I don't think there is much demand for Dragonscale gear. You can make good cash from skinning Devilsaurs mind.

I'd go skinning the turtles on the shore of Tanaris - good selection of thick/rugged, + you can get tutle scales, which sell well at the AH. Additionally, they occasionally drop clams containing pearls.
