What level are you? If you are not high enough level you wont be able to get training.

That is a list of the trainers you can seek on this website.

Let me begin with a complement for this thread. I hate all the forums where "experts" spit on "noobs".

Having that said, my question:

Since the beginning of the game i had 1 character. I picked up Herbalism and Alchemy. Never changed. Now im a Lev 60 rogue, and have both skills on 300. Im grinding/saving for an epic mount.

I'm making some nice money with greater nature protection potions and swiftness potions, but never grind the ingredients, i just buy them from the AH.

For money I grind solo in the Scarlet Monastary. Sell most items on AH and the soulbounds and grey's to vendors. There are quite some green items that won't sell and come back from AH. Those are for the vendors too.

But isnt it better for me to drop herbalism and pick up (dis)enchanting? So i can disenchant the soulbounds and the items i cant sell? Or should i make an alt for that?

(i like this way of playing, hate grinding herbs for hours)

Gr. Eldain, Al Akir

I make a lot of my money through herbalism/alchemy. I pick 90% of the herbs I use, too. I sell a lot of looted items as well. Since you say you buy most of the herbs through the AH, you may benefit from dropping herbalism and picking up enchanting. But what I did was make an alt, level her to 5, learned enchanting, and she's parked in Orgrimmar. I send her most BoE greens/blues to disenchant. So for the few occasions I receive a BoP of no use to me, it works out well.

Since both of your trade skills are maxed, I'd create an alt for disenchanting. Some of the rarer plants bring in lots of cash - more than if they are used to make potions, and Murphy is certain to kick in if you drop herbalism. Within a few days, you're certain to find a bunch of those rare/expensive plants.

New to WoW and been reading the forum posts a lot to try to make sense of this game.

My goal right now is to make enough money that I can level comfortably (being able to have all my spells and abilities trained, get proper gear if I need, get a mount at level 40, etc).

Here's what I understand so far:

If you are looking to make money, to start you should choose two gather professions.

Most people will choose mining and skinning because they can turn on the 'Find Vein' ability and can quickly and easily hunt both mining and skinning. Same with Herbalism and Skinning.

Most people won't choose Herbalism and Mining because you can only have one 'Find' ability active at once. Is this true?

I would think that Mining and Herbalism is more profitable than either of the two and Skinning based on what I've read and the research I've done on the AH.

Further, it seems that is suggested that you eventually move to two crafting professions by the time you are level 60. Starting at level 40ish with one crafting profession, then by level 60 have two.

With buying your supplies on the AH, is it really profitable or are you better off keeping one gathering and one crafting profession?

I started out with a crafting profession (Alchemy) and a gathering profession (Herbalism). I love my gathering profession, I have a lot of fun with it and really enjoy the crafting profession too, but find myself rarely using it. My Herbalism is near level 60 and my Alchemy is near level 15.

Should I drop Alchemy and do Mining instead or just keep to Alchemy as I'll need it in the future anyway?

Thanks for answering my stupid questions ^^

Yes, this is true. You can only have either "Find Herbs" or "Find Minerals" active at a time - not both

As mentioned above, you can only have one "radar" active at one, so having both mining and herbalism isn't real practical. You'll be killing a lot of skinnable critters anyway, so skinning and another gathering profession is a lot more practical.

As mentioned above, doing both Herbalism and Mining at the same time isn't real practical. Go for skinning if you want a secong gathering profession.

You'll get a lot of opinions, but I think Alchemy is a nice tradeskill for lower levels. It's real easy (most of the time you only need vials), and it gives you some useful buffs. Some extra armor, health, strength, water breathing, etc., is always useful.

So I know that there is gold to be made in fishing, but how? Anyone feel up to giving a brief overview of the best way to make gold, and relax from getting my head beaten in?

fishing, simple enough - deviate fish from wailing caverns and near booty bay i believe. You can also farm stonescale eels. Not sure where the best place is for that. Be deviates are a very easy place to go and make money.

If you have the cooking recipe you can cook them (deviates) and sell them on the AH but you can sell them as just the fish as well and make decent money as well.

Stonescale eels are used to make stonescale oil in alchemy which is used in potions. So thats always a good way too.

There are other items in alchemy that you can make with fishing, firefin snappers are used ect...

I've never caught a Deviate fish anywhere other than the barrens.

Tanaris, Feralas, Azhara

Stonescale oil sells for more than the eels (one of the few things where the mats actually cost less than the finished product).

Oily Blackmouth is the other one.

The only money fish I've found around Ratchet are Oily Blackmouth. There are pools of them along the shore there.

Near Ratchet, not in Ratchet - specifically in the scattered oases, not off the coast. And of course in Wailing Caverns, in a cave in the mountain near one of those scattered oases.

Just wondering if its possible to solo the deadmines at lvl 27 w/ a rogue. If not, what lvl should I wait until to attempt this?

I have to say no, probably not, but it never hurt to try.

I've never played as a rogue, but I am a druid and I probably couldn't solo DM in cat form until lvl 40 or so because of the weak armor rating (however I am not feral so that might make a difference). If you are really careful and take it slow I would say mid to high 30s should be fine. Groups will still destroy you if you are alone though. I would suggest going with one other person just to be safe. Splitting two ways isn't that bad...

27 is a bad idea, maybe at level 33-35 you would be successfull, not to say it is undable before then, just not advangagous(takes so long and costs a lot in consumables) untill about the early 30's.

Hi, first post on these forums.

Just wanted to ask a quick question - Currently I'm a level 34 priest and I would like to grind some Greens/Blues to disenchant to get my enchanting skill up from 160-225 as quickly as possible. Where is the best place to grind to get items like this?

Thank you.

At 34, you should be able to solo the low-level instances - Deadmines if you are Alliance, Wailing Caverns if you are Horde (forget Ragefire Chasm - there aren't many greens there). Go with your packs as empty as you can get them.

Currently I have level 23 Dwarf Paladin, when I was around level 17 I had Skinning/Mining made enough cash never had problems with gettign a new set of the best armour for myself, but when most of the time I started getting my xp from humanoids I dropped skinning and got myself engineering. I still have no money issues and still spend most of my time leveling up on Humanoids. My engineering is 102 right now and my mining is 98. If I need some cash I smply get myself a few stacks of copper bars and go to AH. Do you think later on I can make some serious cash with engineering and had I done the right thing by replacing skinning with engineering?
