Whats the best place for a beginning skinner lvl 27

Good ole Stranglethorn Vale is probably the most popular. Plenty of kitties, raptors, and gorillas to skin. Some good quests too. I stayed there until the low 40's if I remember correctly.

Start in your starting zone, then head to the Barrens if you're Horde.

If you are just a beginning skinner at lvl 27, DO NOT START in Stranglethorn Vale.

You need to go back to the second starting area...dolanaar for nightelves...goldshire for humans...kharanos for dwarves and gnomes...trisfal glades for undead and not sure about the other horde.

Beginning skinning is up to 75 and usually you start that in those areas...head on back (even though you get no exp from killing them), you still need to level it up.

Once you reach your 75 skinning mark, you need to go to the next trainer...and the next area to get to 150...that would be darkshore for nightelves...lock modan for gnomes and dwarves...and westfall for humans.

After you reach skinning of 150 and you can get skinning of 225, you can probably go back to the area you should be in as a lvl 27. In Duskwood for humans....Ashenvale for nightelves...and wherever for gnomes and dwarves...you will easily level your skinning to 225 that way. Start with the lower levels...level 19-22 and work your way up as your skinning ability increases.

After that, sure go on down to Stranglethorn Vale, no matter what race you are, because it is skinner's heaven down there. :P

I just re-leveled my level 58 druid’s skinning from 1 to 300. MewzikPhreak’s advice is very good. But I can offer one more thing that may prove helpful. As a guide for what level mobs to kill for the best possible chance of a skill up, follow this simple formula.

Divide your skinning skill by five.

For example, if you have a skinning skill of 145 then you should be killing level 29 mobs for the best chance of a skill gain from skinning.

If you take up skinning when you first start your character all you really need to do is skin the mobs as you kill them. Your skill will keep raising as you level. But if you are already higher level and trying to play catch-up then dividing your skill by five is a handy way to level your skinning very quickly. My druid leveled his skinning from 1 to 300 in one day this way.

Wow...I never though of it that way...divinding it by five. Thanks Calabar...very nice add-on to what I said.

I'm confused.

When raising your fishing skill, for example, you can't start fishing in the more difficult waters because you will never catch any fish and you only gain skill points when you catch a fish.

But I have never failed to skin a creature. The worst result I've ever experienced is getting scraps. And I think I had skill increases on results of scraps.

So I'd think you would just hunt the highest level skinnable creatures you can kill until your skinning skill catches up (earning better XP and loot in the process).

Am I missing something?

You can only skill enemies whose levels are equal or below your skinning level / 5. In other words, at 200 skill you can skin a level 40 enemy, but not a level 42 enemy... you'd need 210 skill for that. Since you haven't been killing things more than around 5+ levels higher than you, your skinning skill is higher than the enemies you are fighting. Something with a very high level will be RED to you and you can't skin it.

Do you mean that corpses are color-coded based on their difficulty relative to your skill? I hadn't noticed this but I never looked for it before. I'll check it out when I'm in game again.

To add on to fishing. Fishing is completly different from all other professions, you will skill up just as fast in Stormwind Canal as you will in Azshara, the only limitations on fishing is the initial skill required to fish in a particular zone, and the skill required to keep fish from getting away.

Skinning, mining, and herbalism all have set levels of grey/green/yellow/orange/red skill limitations based on the node/herb/creature level.

If that makes any sense.

Actually, yes corpses are color coded according to your skinning skill.

OK thanks, I understand it better now.
I saw last night that the word "Skinnable" was green on things I was killing. As my skinning is close to 300 I guess I won't see it in red on this character, but it's good to understand how it works.

...I think they should make it where you can see your character cutting them open and ripping all the skin off the body, you should see the blood anf the organs and everything, that would be awsome.

What I'd like to see is the end-game ability to skin player corpses. Then when they resurrect, they have to run around without skin for a while until it regens. Now THAT would be awesome. :)
