Thanks, Schnizz

See the sticky post at the top of this forum. The best place to start is a trainer and a body of water in your race's starting zone.

These will get you to 125 easily

Human/Dwarf/Gnome - Pond by Goldshire
Night Elf - Darnassus
Tauren - Pond in lower level at Thunder Bluff
Orc/Troll - Ogrimar
Undead - never played undead, so I couldn't say

125 - 225

Alliance - Menethil Harbor (Oily Blackmouth, Firefin Snapper)
Horde - The Barrens (Deviate Fish)

Not if you are advancing your cooking skills at the same time (there really needs to be an Old Skull Soup recipe...maybe Sickly Fish Wrap...but there isn't). And you are learning to cook at the same time, aren't you?

You catch the same stuff in UC that you catch in just about any other starting zone.

Um....no?

The loot table for Undercity Fishing is different than those of Thunder Bluff and Orgrimmar. You're simply not going to hook old skulls and sickly fish in, say, Thunder Bluff. Whereas you will about 30% of the time in Undercity.

what you catch in undercity doesn't really matter - you can always catch cooking fish at your leisure, since cooking levels very fast anyhow. All that really matters for a beginning fisherman is to get past 100, so that any lure can be used, and that can be done at a very early level.

Yeah, but you want as many of those brilliant smallfish as you can catch for those first 25 or so cooking skill points. By the time you're at 100 fishing, you're off to find something salable to catch.

There's less backtrack if you level the two professions together from the get-go.

True but you made it sound like there is nothing but skulls and sickly fish. I fished UC a few times when bored and I think that while not ideal, you will get some mud snappers and brilliant smallfish to level cooking with.
