Dumping alchemy for what?Follow

#1 May 30 2006 at 11:19 PM Rating: Decent
I currently have enchanting and alchemy. I am very happy with enchanting but hate alchemy. Why? because it is cheaper to just buy the potions than it is to buy the ingredients to make the potions.
So I'm thinking about dumping enchanting for a different profession. I'm tempted by engineering because there are items that only engineers can wear. I also heard that herbalism makes some major gold at later levels. There is also the problem that I'm level 35. What do you think I should switch too?

I'd say, dump enchanting and start Herbalism to go with Alchemy. That way you can make your own potions and make money selling high level potions.

It all depends on what you want to do.

Engineering for fun and PvP.
Tailoring or Leatherworking if you've figured out a craftable that d/e's better than its cost.
Mining or Herbalism if you don't mind doing gathering runs and want to make some money.

I am actually going through a simular problem. I have alchemy and herbalism but I want to pick up enchanting. Chances are you have spent a lot of gold levevling both but more so with enchanting, and if it is high level, I would say keep it. As for alchemy, yes you do spend tons on herbs (roughly 6-12g for a stack of sungrass on my server which is still young), so in order to supply yourself with money to buy all those expensive items in which you need for enchants, like righteous orbs ets. , I would suggest dropping alch and get skinning. It's easy to level first of all, I got mine to 250 in 2 hours on an old toon, and you make a crap load of gold by selling devilsaur stuff. Also, enchanted leather sells fairly well anywhere from 3-5g a piece up to 6g depending on your servers economy. Remember there is always a market for enchanting too. Also if you have a buddy on your server, who is a leatherworker, you can give them leather in exchange for some items to d/e (since LW items are relatively easy to craft). I find it more difficult to sell potions than enchants as I have done both in the past. Well I hope my advice helps, goodluck!

Do you honestly think that enchanting will be any diffrent? That somehow that when folks will not pay for low level pots, that they will start paying for low level enchants?

Hey if you want to do enchanting, tear at it but my only input is that the logic you chose is totaly backwards, you are moving from one moneysink to an other. The diffrence is that you can make money with Alehcmey with no mats, just sell a transmute.

Alchemy/enchanting is a great combo, my druid uses it and it works out well. Mostly because I gather my herbs on a alt. with this combo I make wizard oils as well as fire protect pots and the like. Just like alchemy the cost to produe is exceeded by the sale price on "Eazy" stuff, that means any enchant you can buy form a vendor or learn from a trainer, the same is true for alchemy(exception being transmutes, and shadow power pots). Now complete you scholo questline, and you can make major mana pots Since most folks are far too lazy to complete the line, the players that did now have something that sells well(well marginaly larger than the cost of mats), or just by the recipe for greater fire portection pots(last 2 epic mounts were purchased off of sellnig theese allone), or crank your rep with the ZG trolls and sell mageblood pots, I get about 1½ gold each, ya for freeking one!!!!

Enchanting pays off in the end after you have done rep quests till you are blue in the face. Alchemy is a great way to pay the bills till then.

Ok OK ok. To make money with alchemy you just gotta be patient. Indeed herbalism makes tons of money but alch is great as well. For example I sell Swiftness potions(3-4g stack) Free Action(5g) Elixir of Greater Agility(4g) and many more. For herbalism you can just farm Grave moss which sells from 10-15g a stack(used for shadow protection potions for high lvl instances.)

So if you want tons of money I'd go herbalism alchemy, with these two i had over 100g before i was lvl 30(my main) and I didnt even farm that much.
