Well as a lvl 29 I tried to grind shellfish traps for a Big Iron Fishing pole with +20 fishing. Well 3.5 hours, hundreds of shellfish, a random green and a bunch of vendor trash later I had to go to sleep(with no pole). Basically wait for someone to put it on the AH for 25g, I could have made 75g in the time it took me to grind the stupid traps. Ok I'm done ranting, I just had to get that off my shoulders. Stupid crabs.

Hmmm....I better not tell you that I found four of those in about twenty minutes while waiting for a group to arrive at Maraudon. It was an easy 100 gold. In fact, my second and third traps each had a Big Iron Fishing Pole in it.

I never had one when I could have used it. I used a Strong Pole until I got the FC-5000. A week later, I had an Arcanite Fishing Pole. Oh, well.

At your level, you can still catch stonescale eels with a 225 skill and Bright Baubles on your line.

I know, and I do. It was just more of a challenge than anything.

Not really. Warlocks can cast underwater breathing and the bubblers replenish your breath.

I'm going to have to say I agree with the original poster.

I invested 35G in my "BIFP" many levels ago when I was but 35 or so, and it's probably paid for itself ten or twelve times over now. It's the last rod you'll ever buy.

I don’t like to buy things from the AH I can farm myself. Granted, it would often be “cheaper” in the long run if I farmed money instead. But it’s the principle of the thing. Plus I like having goals and accomplishing them. You really don’t want to know how many months I spend trying to loot a green dragon whelp pet. *grins*

I’ve farmed well over a dozen Big Iron Fishing Poles for my many alts and for friends. I sometimes got them in the first five minutes and sometimes it was many hours later. But my most recent attempt has proven very frustrating. I wanted one for my new hunter. I’ve taken my paladin down there, he has a Deep Dive Helm, several times now, for a total of about nine hours and I’ve yet to loot a pole. I gave up for a bit and traded one from a higher level character I don’t play very often. But I will go back and I will loot another pole, even if it takes me another fifty hours.

Man, I spent months killing in the Swamp of Sorrows for a whelp pet. I told my friend about it...he went down...3rd kill...found one. I still have yet to find one after many characters farming for one. :P

Ay

I've got two so far, maybe in an hour worth of time invested. I did it on alts to kill time waiting for Maraudon groups to come together.

I got mine on the first trap I opened. I didn't even know it existed untill I got it and thought to myself "Hey, that's pretty nifty."

My friend showed me where to farm this before but before we started searching he told me. It took me at least an hour and 100s of traps to find it, so don't get discouraged. Funny enough while he was saying that I opened up my first trap and what did I find?

"Big Iron Fishing Pole", so I said to him, you mean one of these will drop in 100 traps and after that, he didn't talk to me for a few days lol, well he did, but only to say lucky SoB.. It was great, I'm actually gonna go get that Arcanite Fishing Rod or whatever it is called, once I'm actually high enough.
