Depends on what your goals are.

If you want a better PvP and PvE aspect, go for alchemy. If your sole purpose is for PvP. I say engineering. A little more information would be helpful though.

They both have great utility; Engineering is more centered on toys and trinkets that might be more amusing than useful.

Of course you can't deny the awesomeness of a Gnomish Death Ray crit to the face :)

If you're big on group PVP, I would take engineering... if PVE is important to you, definitely go alchemy. You probably won't be disappointed either way.

For what its worth, my Warlock was an alchemist and I switched to Engineering halfway through - its a blast. (excuse the pun)

I love my alchemist, I'v never try Engineering but from what I can see is that Engineering is more powerful, fun and expensive.

I can make lots of gold with my Alchemist/Herbalism, and you will too with mining 'Arcane Crystals' and then useing them useing them with your Alchemist's 'Transmute: Arcanite' for the 'Arcanite Bars'.

But if this is an alt for you and maybe you have all the gold you need then go for Engineering,
you can all ways try selling engineering toys at the AH,
...like maybe Green Lens or Mechanical Squirrels ..?
say how do you Engineering people make your gold? most of your good things are 'Requires Engineering' or 'Binds when picked up'

...say Sammers, you could use that Goblin Mining Helmet!
fun times!

Ok, I have 2 toons that I switch between and one is alc... one is engin! Now, alc is my bread and butter, it gives me the pots I need and makes me pretty darn rich. I have only recently tried out engin on my other and even though it takes a lot of work (not very expensive if you mine your own stuff), it is one of the most fun and strange profs you can have! I really love both and would be severly conflicted to choose one... but in the end it would be alc cause it is more utilitarian for my needs.

then again... you could do both ya know! all alc mats can be bought pretty reasonably and make good profits. since you already have mining, I would take engineering then drop mining when you get engin skill far along and take up alc.

Its very difficult to make a profit from engineering... I've found the best way is just selling engineering parts that are used in other recipes. Its hard to sell final products because 95% of the time your market is also your competition.

Everyone loves a mechanical squirrel, though =P.

Alchemy is better in this respect; you'll make a much better profit.
