Is leatherworking useless?Follow

First time poster, long time reader...Please don't kill me!

I have a 43 mage and a 35 warlock(both gnomes) and i took up tailoring with my mage, but the armor i was making was almost useless as far as stats for my lock...I was buying better armor in AH. So now i'm taking up Druid on a pve server and i eventually wanna go balance to get moonkin at 40 and i've noticed that druids even in normal form really don't have much mana so for stats i would like to go intellect then stamina then spirit or agility which i hear is good for cat form, but i've also noticed that the armor in LW have no int. and mostly agility so what my question is, should i stick with LW and hope that the stats eventually get better for what i want or should i just drop it and get two gathering skills and buy better armor in AH or get better drops? Please help this is my first character that isn't a cloth wearing squishie.

My view of most trade skills is they are meant to have good gear at high level. It is easier and more cost effective to buy your armor while slowly leveling said craft. Once at 25+ when the useful and rare recipes start coming is when you could start equipping things of use.

For tradeskills, beginners usually wanna take up one that allows them to create their own armor. For your warlock and mage, I'd suggest tailoring as one of them.
So you're a druid? Your druid knows leatherworking, which is good. Leatherworking does something special when you hit 225; it splits into three types of leatherworking. The types are tribal, elemental, and dragonscale. They all have their pros and cons; however, some types are better for specific classes. For example, dragonscale creates mail armor, which is useful for shamen and hunters. Tribal I think is good for druids, and elemental has stats that are good for rogues. Now at lvl 32, I find leatherworking not only profitable, also able to equip. lower lvl players in my guild w/armor and reinforcements

I'm level 52 and have 278 leatherworking at the moment (Elemental specialization, Khaz Modan realm - just ask if you're a Horde KhazMonaut and need something).

You're right - most leatherworking recipes do not have +int until you hit the Guardian leather items around level 160. You get the Big Voodoo items around level 215 and then Wild Leather at 220. Wild Leather is a pain because you have to get TONS of turtle scales for the quest, a goodly quantity of wildvine (which can be expensive in the AH and a very slow dropper off the trolls in STV or Hinterlands)...and then you make the items and MAYBE get your desired "of the" enchantment. I guess you're after Eagle for the +int and +stamina, right? Keep crafting the wild leather items until you get your Of the Eagle and sell the rest in AH (or give to a guildie or send to an enchanter alt to DE).
After Wild Leather, you can specialize in Tribal and start getting the really sweet stuff.

If crafting is fun for you and you like the challenge of running around trying to find mats or take pride in that little <made by _____> tag, then keep LW and be happy. I enjoy both of those things, so I will stick with crafting (even though sometimes it's more of a money sink than a money maker). If you like instant gratification and just want The Best, maybe you want to consider dropping leatherworking and going for two gathering skills (skinning + herbalism or mining, or maybe even Enchanting so you can disenchant unneeded quest rewards for mats to sell).

I have a selfish view on these things. Anything that can be crafted, you can get someone in your guild to do it for you (or find someone who charges a reasonable fee). While leveling, you will do better with skinning + herbalism or mining because everything you get will be profit.

Now after you hit 60 you can choose professions as you can easily make money just grinding on mobs. The obvious choice for one profession is engineering since you have to be an Engineer to use all the cool gadgets. The other one is up to you...whatever you find fun or useful. Everything is profitable once you get the high end recipes. Alchemy and Enchanting might be the most useful to you end game.
