Enchant + TailorFollow

I'm thinking of starting a troll mage/priest, and I was thinking about doing enchanting and tailoring. Is there any benefit to this? Also, how to you make money enchanting in WoW? Do you use the chat channels to offer enchants for cash?

In my limited experience, it seems to be a good combination (especially for an alt). Since you're a clothwearer, you'll be getting a lot of quest rewards that you can't use. You can disenchant those. With tailoring, you can make your own gear (including some nice robes when you get high level). You can even use your skill to disenchant your own greenies that you make and level 2 skills at once. You can either sell the mats you disenchant to, or use them to level your enchanting skill. With extremely casual play, I've managed to make some decent gold on my level 12 tailoring/enchanting priestess. I HAVE fed her items to disenchant that either don't sell or I know won't sell, but she's been doing a pretty good job of just making money selling stacks of disenchanted components from cheap greenies she buys in the AH or makes with tailoring. My main has also been hoarding cloth for her, so she has stacks of that at her disposal as well. It's all a bit time-consuming, though, so don't expect fast rewards.

It's a very nice combo. I have a forsaken mage and a NE priest with those talents. Besides, tailoring is the only other profession besides enchanting where you can make items without a gathering skill.

You don't make much gold off of enchanting till the higher levels, but I think it's worth it in the end. Just ignore the people who complain about the cost of the enchant when mats are skyrocketing in the AH >.<

Thanks guys. AAANNNYYYWWWAAAYYY... I was wondering. If I find this blue drop I can't use, can I enchant it and sell if for higher on the AH or chat channels? If I use the chat, do I have to explain the enchantment? Please inform me on your experiences.

You know, I'm not sure of the best answer to that.
For a leatherworker, slapping an armor kit onto an item is usually a nice bonus. Most people want them anyway. But for enchanting, people are usually so particular about the enchants they want (and mats are expensive) that I don't think it's worthwhile to add a "BONUS!" bundled extra for an additional cost that somebody may or may not want. If you're just doing it for the skillup and don't care if you're losing money, then go for it.

I personally don't have the patience to sell enchants on the trade channel for very long. With that being said, I make quite a bit of money in very little time with tailor/enchanting. I posted my advice for doing this on another thread, will quote here:

I wrote:
Personally, having tailoring has made me a lot of money, but not by selling my wares(also making a Robe of the Archmage, just a few essences to go). I instead make my money by making a lot of items for disenchantment. I can often make 40g profit in 20 mins doing this.

Other than that, you might take GeneriKB's approach to making money with crafting skills GeneriKB's Guide. I'd imagine, for example, that you can make some fair money in crafting fees from making Flarecore items for people just getting ready to raid MC.

What are you crafting that is worth disenchanting? I have a alt that is an enchanter and I am always looking for better (and easier) ways of making money.

It's a secret(just kidding).

Actually, I do lots of things, at least 1 for each level of cloth, not counting moon/fel cloths. That way I always have a variety of enchanting mats up for sale.

Rather than tell you what works on my server, I'll tell you how to figure out the best way on your server:

Addons:

ReagentCost
Why: Tells you how much the average cost of materials is for your craftable goods based on Auction House prices.

Enchantrix
Why: Tells you what an item will disenchant into and what the average price of those items will be.

Auctioneer
Why: The other two addons use information gathered by this one. Try to do a scan once a day.
Bonus: Once you have done a few scans and have an idea of what to make, you can craft your goods in bulk all while doing your daily AH scan. Good time for a restroom break; to - in the words of Flintlocke - make a sammitch; or just time to catch up on an episode of Southpark that you happen to have on your DVR from the previous night. Just make sure you stop by every couple of mins to hit a key so that you don't go AFK and stop crafting.

Tip: Don't forget that often people list stacks of cloth on the AH for cheaper than what you could get the equivalent number of bolts for, so there are some things that may only look marginally profitable via ReagentCost/Enchantrix that are very profitable when you buy the raw cloth instead of the bolts. This is especially true of Mageweave and Runecloth. Again, this is on my server, so what these are may be different.

Hope this helps.

Edit:
One Caveat
The value of disenchantables from Enchantrix is average. You may lose money on an individual item you make. Some disenchants will reward you with less and others will reward you with much much more. Plan to make a lot at one time and it usually averages out to what Enchantrix says.

It's a great combo to have, but as said before, it is a huge financial burden to lvl up.
