Leatherworking questionFollow

Alright then... I'm going Tribal.

Prior to beginning the Tribal LW quests, there's a series of "Wild Leather" quests from Feathermoon that must be completed first.

My question is... do the other two types of leatherworking have a similar "prior" quest set? If they do, can I learn those patterns before I take the Tribal quest, and still head tribal? Or will the prior quests lock me into one singular path?

Well like you know, there are 3 options for Leatherworking.
Dragonscale, Tribal and Elemental.
You can choose 1 path. So if you choose to go tribal, you cant get any patterns from orther Leatherworking paths.
So you can only do 1 Leatherworking quest.

Thank you UltiHunter, but that's not what I'm asking. I know you can only choose one path.

It's like this... you can get all the wild leather patterns without starting the Tribal leatherworking quest. In fact, you have to have those patterns.

Are there similar prereq quests for Dragonscale and Elemental? i.e. is there something you have to do, certain patterns you have to get, before you go to the Dragonscale or Elemental trainer?

Let's see... I know for tribal leatherworking you need to give some armor to the guy, and to get that armor you need the patterns for them, and to get the patterns you need to complete the leatherworking quests in Feralas. Bit of a hassle... For dragonscale, you need some scorpid armor (scales in Tanaris), as well as like 10 dragonscales. For elemental, you need two hearts of fire, globes of water, and other stuff that you can get in Arathi Highlands (I think). So, to answer your question, no, there are no prior quests for dragonscale and elemental.

I'm currently level 275 leatherworking, Elemental specialization (Horde side).
I did the Wild Leather quests beforehand, but not because I had to (I don't think). As far as I know, the Wild Leather quests are not a prerequisite for any branch apart from Tribal because you need to hand in Wild Leather items to get Tribal leatherworking.
Regarding Elemental leatherworking, you can't actually get the mats needed from the Arathi Highlands. I thought so at first, too, because the guy who teaches it to Horde is right there and there are several circles full of elementals nearby, right? WRONG! They drop Elemental [fill in the blank] and crap like coal and burning pitch, but NOT the required Heart of Flame, etc. Boy, was I surprised. I must have wiped out those circles of elementals a couple times before figuring that one out. Duh. I ended up getting myself to the auction house for the necessary items because at level 45ish, there was no way I could handle farming them myself. Well, the Globe of Water is actually not THAT hard to pick up in Feralas off of the water elementals by the shore...but with no fire resistance, the Searing Gorge literally burned me alive. Ouch.

IndependanceDay: Thank you! That's exactly the information I was looking for. Big help there.

Tepetkhet Scholar: Gah... I know the feeling, with collecting wildvine. In addition to dropping so rarely off the bloody trolls, the Hinterlands is just stuffed with gold farmers on Hyjal. Ack.

Just Tepetkhet, thanks. The Scholar is my current title, bestowed kindly upon me by the gracious members of these forums. ;)

Wildvine is a sickeningly rare drop. On Khaz Modan, it doesn't even show up in the auction house sometimes. I initially picked some up from the trolls in Stranglethorn Vale and foolishly sold it for far less than it's worth...and regretted it as soon as I got the Wild Leather quests.
If the Hinterlands are being farmed to ridiculousness, try the trolls in STV for a break.
