Try the rogue forum maybe?

At level 12, your talent points really shouldn't affect whether you live or die.

At level 12 you should still be working on some quests in the starting zone. Then moving over to the Barrens. Hmm.... Are you using energy at all? I mean, fast attack speed is good, but rogues can't do a thing if they don't use any energy. Try this: when fighting a mob, gouge at full energy, run around to the back, backstab, wait for energy regen, SS, and eviscerate.

Probably should ask the people in the Rogue forum. They answer rogue questions more than the people in here probably :)

As mentioned before, this belongs in the rogue forum.

Anyway to answer your question, dagger specs for leveling purposes are usually harder/slower than sword specs. You don't do as much damage per hit with a dagger versus sword, plus to fully benefit from daggers you need to backstab. This means a lot of stun locking by opening with Cheap Shop then using Kidney Shot and Gouge during the fight to stun your opponent. Once your opponent is stunned, you want to get around a backstab cause if you don't, you're not benefiting from using a dagger build thus should be using swords. Also if you're a human rogue, swords is definetely the way to go while leveling just because of the specilization bonus.

Okay, I won't say this belongs in the rogue's forum since everyone else already did. Yes, rogues stink at low levels _compared_ to high levels because they need talents and skills to exploit their abilities. Low level you are just a weak melee character and you should concentrate on grinding mobs that you can handle and do quests to gain experience.

Later you can go on a killing spree of PvP bloodletting when your talents and skills differentiate you from other classes that become your victims. That's the way the system works. At first everyone is similar, give or take a few skills, but later each class excels more and more in their avenue of developement. That means rogues become really great killers end-game.

Oh, yeah, if you are level 12 in any class with any specialization, you should not consider respecing. You haven't experimented at all. Wait till you are sure what you want to do before you start feeding the respec machine.

you might want to post this on a class forum instead of trade skills....

Dude, thanks for beating a dead horse...

I think it has been established that this should have been on the Rogue Class Forum, but thanks for stating it ONE more time just incase anyone missed it.

At your leveling respecing is a huge waste of money. Maybe its your weapons?

This might seem a little obvious, but make sure you've trained all of your current skills and abilities. Also, try reviewing the game mechanics for a rogue. I don't remember my rogue ever doing anything but ripping new ones. I'd like to think it's because I'm "l33t" or whatever, but I doubt it. As a reiteration, your 3 talent points at level 12 should have nothing to do with your combat abilities. Try re-evaluating at 40.
