Where should I start mining to work my way up so I can mine at places that are my lv 35. I would like a place that can quickly raise my mining skill so I can mine like iron or something around there.

Unlike skinning, mining is a pain in the backside to level. Don’t get me wrong. I love mining. Mining is what bought my first character his level 40 mount. But leveling mining is anything but fast.

Starting out is easy. Just run around the mountainous areas, or areas with rock outcroppings, in the starting areas, such as outside of Ironforge or Stormwind. Though from what I’ve read this doesn’t work in the NE starting area. Trees just don’t have a lot of metal growing out of them.

When you start out you’ll get a skill point for each copper node you mine. You’ll also get skill points for smelting copper. So your skill will increase fairly quickly at first. But then leveling up will suddenly slow down. Tin is a lot more rare than copper and silver is a rare spawn. And soon you’ll no longer get skill points from smelting.

Things pick up again once you can mine iron. You won’t get skill points for smelting iron, but there’s a lot of iron to be found.

If you're Alliance, start out mining copper in the Gol'Bolar Quarry in Dun Morogh. This place has 3-4 spawns inside the cave, 2-3 in the basin, and 2-3 around the general area. With the minerals on a 10ish or so minute respawn, it's a good and fast way to get some copper.

For Horde, there is a VERY low level kobold cave in Mulgore (it's in the west). The enemies are like under level 8, but there are 4-5 copper spawns inside the cave. If you run up to the dwarven mining site to smelt, you'll find 1-3 more spawns along the way.

For tin, you'll have a slightly tougher time. I only know for the Alliance. Try Red Ridge first; the caves behind Lakeshire have 2 spawns, as do the valleys where the gnolls reside (where Yowler is). Other caves in this area also have tin, but not a ton.

I believe one of the best spots is in the Wetlands. Just outside of Dun Algaz (the name for the pathway from Loch Modan to the Wetlands), head north. You'll know you're in the right place if you see a ton of spiders. There is a spider cave here that spawns tin, silver (rare tin spawn) and some quest ore. At the very least, the quest ore will give you some skillups (I think it's like mining 55 to get it, as opposed to tin's... 65?), and the tin and silver will carry you to 125, the level for iron. At least I think that's the level.

Also, check the guides section or the Trade Skill Sticky for the mining guide. It helps.

Yes they can be a good way to make money. If you are looking for some information as to where to mine certain ores, try http://mapwow.com It is based on the Google map engine and you can chose several options such as particular ores or herbs and it will show you on the maps where others have found them.

Hope it helps.

Thank for all your help guys, but is there a cave where there is an abundance of iron deposits, so I can mine quicker than wandering around a whole zone.

Mining, Skinning and Fishing FTW!

I started an alt the other day (rogue) and hooked him up with some Mining, Skinning and Fishing skills and he has made over 30g easily for me (more like 40g I've bought a few things). Selling copper, i've found, is the most consistant way to get gold, average around 1g50s - 2g for a stack of copper bars. Leather always sells and the key is to low-bid it and by that I mean if people are selling a buyout for 50s (pretty usual on LB) I like to start it at 25s and set buyout at 35s (24hrs). It's neat to be questing and see in your combat log "Your auction of Light Leather has sold." come up about 20 or 30 times in a row and you know there's about 7g (less AH cut) waiting for you in the mail. Look at it as the time you spent killing the animal, which gives you XP, skinning the animal, which lvls skinning, equals underselling in AH, which gives you gold.

Mining is harder, no doubt because the nodes are not always as pleantiful. However, a lower lvl can run around around outside IF (Dun Morogh? SP) hit all the nodes and loop aroun dagain as they are re-spawning. Easily gather 40-60 Copper and lvl accordingly.

IMO Fishing is very unique and can be lvld extremely fast. After fishing for 3 days on my alt I learned the skill on my main around 6:30 last night. By 10:30 (waiting for WSG FOREVER) I was 145 and ran down to Booty Bay to grab the expert book. (Fun to do at lvl 29... eat that 34 Undead Mage!) The other thing with fishing is the awesome stuff you pull up other than High-selling fish (Firefin and Oils for now)I've pulled up 4 or 5 Greens that are going to be very nice for a lvl 24 rogue including a ring with some good +Agl. Really worth while skill to have. Also, I like to keep Cold Milk and other +manas on hand incase your caster realizes "Whoops I forgot them in bank" and keep fish for hunter's pets and such.

Again, all IMO. Let me know if I'm on or off. Thanks
