or skinning and mining AND FISHING. The two main tradeskills will get you to the point where you can start making the real money through fishing.

Smiley: eek Wow, I wish I was on your server...I'd be the proud owner of my epic mount, have bought my battleground alt the sword I'm farming, and have saved up the money to have a Sageblade crafted. Heck, I'd be able to fish enough to do it all in a weekend. 55g or more an hour....wow...just wow.

Regardless of server, though, OP: Stonescales are where real money comes from. Get good at fishing while not paying attention and you can catch up on your netflix movies while doing it too. Some servers, you'll find that oily blackmouths/firefins are an excellent money maker, but the real money is all in the stonescale eels.

Edit: Money can be found in fishing Essence of Waters, but it's more steady in stonescales.

Skinning/Herb or Skinning/Mining with some Fishing on the side. Fishing is a personal prefrence. You either like it or you don't. Unlike the other gathering professions, and even counting selling/gathering cloth drops, when you fish all you do is fish. You don't gain XP by fishing, and it is boring as hell in most cases. If you're on a PvP server, you're likely to get torn up quite a bit if you're watching movies while doing it. However, that being said, fishing is a good source of money no doubt (as others have illustrated for you). Stonescale eels sell very well, and blackmouths/firefins also sell pretty decently. I've found that aliance side, deviate's and savory deviate delight (the cooked version) sell better and for more money than horde side. However, to cook um, you're going to need to get the deviate delight recipe which can run quite a bit on some servers aliance side (I've seen them for well over 100g). Horde side, they are much more common b/c they only drop in the barrens, and that being said prices are lower. On an end note, that 100g recipe will often allow you to make back the money it costs in a weekend aliance side... people love their fish :)

I paid for my mount (and some nice armor, weapons, and trinkets) by fishing stonescale eel. The eel are going for about 1g each on my server (wish it was 55g a stack! lol) but definitely worth it. They sell well too. I've never been left with a stack that "expired" on the AH.
