so I've reached 225 in Alchemy at the tender level of 26, but I cannot buy Artisan alchemy until I reach level 35. I'm in Hillsbrad right now, and I'll probably be spending most of my time around guys levels 25+... any ideas what I can do to earn some money making gray potions until I reach level 35?

Can you make swiftness potions? If so, those sell like crazy to twinks for quite a bit of money. Also found that anything with +Agi sells for more than mat cost(so many hunters/rogues). All I can think of right now.

well, the recipe for swiftness is up to 14 gold... so I'm not really able to buy that at the moment, plus the potion itself is pretty cheap. I'm not sure if dishing out 14 gold for a potion that sells at 20 silver is really worth it
#4 Apr 24 2006 at 2:48 PM Rating: Decent
Well Im assuming you get high lvl herbs in some way shape or form to get to 225 alchemy. So potions that you can do at 225 alchemy which always sell well.....

Superior Healing potions - always sell well on my server, as everyone needs heal pots. In fact on that subject the GREATER HEALING POTIONS were a big profit for me and still are at 300 alchemy.

Fire Oil - This is a good money maker if you fish the firefin snappers yourself. As is Blackmouth oil made from oily black mouths

Other than that the stat increases, (str, agi, etc), sell ok as ppl use them to grind on lower lvls.

Indeed? Wow. On my server the recipe costs about 30g+. But it's very worth it, netting me about 1g25s per pot. After 20 potions (with the price of swiftthistle at about 15-16g) I end up making about 7-8g profit per 20. Not major money, but a decent amount. Also works with mongoose pots on my server as well, but your server's prices could be different. Try this then: If you don't have auctioneer or something similar, get it. Add in ReagentCost. Both mods work together to tell you how much something costs to make by buying AH materials and how much you can sell the item for.

Just make sure that you're careful and take the readings with a grain of salt until the number of auctions seen > 100 or so.

Aye, either your server is screwy or your pricing is incorrect.

I'm a level 33 Rogue, capped at 225 Alchemy for awhile now but I make a LOT of money off of it.

I have 3 main go-to's:
Swiftness Potions
Nature Protection
Shadow Protection

Swiftness sells for ~5g per stack of 5
Nature sells for ~2.5g per stack of 5
Shadow sells for ~7g per stack of 5

I bought the recipe for Swiftness potion for ~30g but as you can see, it paid for itself very quickly. That said I never buy herbs off the AH, I just farm while running around/grinding.

I've also had some luck selling the DEF+ pots, some of which are used in other recipes and just selling overage on herbs gathered as well.

I sell swiftness potions well at 75 silver, they never expire. I also have no trouble selling lesser invis pots. Water Breathing pots are hit or miss, but sometimes folks pick them up for doing underwater quests so if you leave them priced on the low end and on long, you can probably sell some.

I never buy herbs, just grab them when I'm out hunting, so that helps with saving money and you're crazy if you don't pick up fishing. Once the oils grayed out to me, I sold any firefin or oily blackmouths on the AH for other alchemists to buy. You can also start fishing in Feralas at Feathermoon for Stonescale eels, which sell well now, or if you're smart you'll save them for Stonescale Oil at 250. It's a bit of a hairy run to Feathermoon if you don't have the FP yet, but head from the Stonetalon Mountain end and you'll get there. You'll want the FP to pick up your Artisan anyway when you hit the right level.

Server economy varies greatly. It depends on how old or new the server is (on a new server, lower level stuff is more expensive). It depends on how full a server is, and therefore how many alchemists there are. If there is more competition, it will drive prices down. There are alot of variables to consider. Generally though, it all works out because on a server where you can sell potions for more, the "cost of living" is more...just like any economy.

i made lots of gold off swiftness pots as well, but the market fluctuates a little too wildly for my tastes. some days a stack goes for 3g and others for 7-8g.

my newest little trick is selling free action potions on warsong gulch weekends. you can run up and down the coast of westfall for oily blackmouth and stranglekelp, with little trouble from mobs (or horde on pvp servers.) or with a modest bankroll you can farm the ah for good deals. on the heavily populated warsong pvp server i buy

2 stacks oily blackmouth @ 2g each
1 stack stranglekelp @ 2g

during the other three weeks of the month, and sell

4 stacks free action potion @ 12g each

on warsong gulch weekends. but since i REACHED LEVEL 60 AND BOUGHT A SWIFT PALOMINO LAST NIGHT fishing prolly won't seem like such a waste of time anymore.

I should also note that with herbalism, I loot all herbs when I'm running through a zone, even if they won't skill me up in any way, and I sell them on the AH. For example, I don't gain skill ups for getting Wild Steelbloom anymore, and none of my green or better pots use it, but I grab it if it comes up on the minimap somewhere and once I hit a stack, I put it on the AH. This definitely adds up, and will only become more profitable as my level (and therefore the zone I'm hunting in) and my skill in herbalism increase.

Smiley: jawdropHow did I forget about Free Action pots? Smiley: banghead

Oh, that's right, my BG character is a PaladinSmiley: tongue. I really need to go make some of those babies. Too bad I missed the WSG honor weekend this month.

Oh, and fishing is never a waste of time...so long as you're fishing the good stuff.

Since they implemented the Nodes, it's easy to make sure you are. However, if you're trying to do ANYTHING else, it's also very distracting. I feel like I've developed ADD because of it. I'll be running somewhere and I see a node and I'm like, "ooh, shiney!".
Then I try to leave and an herb pops up on the map. An hour later and I haven't even reached where I was planning on hunting, haha.

Swiftness potions yeah. Shadow oil too, cuz' it's a reagent for several professions. And DONT forget frost oil. There's a quest that requires it, so start makin' em. No floods.

QFT... I feel the same way... those stupid nodes! Actually I like um quite a bit. Maybe I'll actually bother to get fishing up to 300 on this rogue (think my hunter has his at 290).

I only fish on the nodes when i am waiting for a boat to come, it doestnt really distract me when i am planning to do something.

If your a level 25 why not just run RFC a couple of times, thats where it (swiftness potion spell) dropped for me.

Run it a few times, get some goodies - sell em and hope the spell drops!! :)

For a level 25 you should be able to walk through that place.

but thats only if your horde.

RFC is by far the best way to farm gold at low levels. People are crazy about swiftness potions (don't ask me why) and are willing to pay up to 70gold (in Malfurion) for the recipe.

I've ran rfc like 10 times with my 38 undead rogue (Twinked by the way) and it dropped around 6-7 times. Plus, it only takes about 15-20 minutes to run through at higher levels.

Up side: Easy $$
Down side: No exp, got to reset the instance everytime but don't exceed the rule for instances (I think it is 5 runs per 30 minutes).

Because it's good fun when being chased by a couple of opponents in WSG. When they think that they're just about to catch you, bam, off like a bolt.

That's also why free action pots are great. With no Pallies around to give you blessing of freedom, you can grab the flag and be all, "Snare this bee-yotch!"

Sorry, hopped up on caffeine at work.

Here's some good money makers for you to level with -

Shadow oil, used by other professions (try selling them one at a time 2-4g each) It can be hard to get grave moss if you are horde though. Unless you have no problems getting into the alliance areas.

Goblin Rocket Fuel, used by engineers. HUGE Money maker, farm it from the pirates near the ocean in gadgetzan. Its drop rate isnt heavenly in any form, but each potion will sell for around 2-3g. Sometimes more. A few hours farming, or questing there will bring in plenty (mount here i come!)

Mighty trolls blood potion, everyone uses them - cant go wrong making them.

Lesser Invisibility potions, enough said. Everyone uses them.

Unless you concider Ghostwalker post a alliance base, I need to take issue with that statment, the kudo graveyard is a decent source of gravemoss, Scarlet monostary is surely not a alliance area, and grave moss is "Getable" in their, Druids and rogues can sneek in and farm it all day long(It respawns), other folks may need to get a lil help for the fist few group of mobs.

While not a lot(usualy one spawn) grave moss can also be found in Alterac Mountains(eleite oger town).

I have also seen it in ZF.

Keep your eyes pealed, the stuff is all over areas with dead bodies(Graves), just usualy only one or two nodes at a time.

I certainly agree with you - The problem with gravemoss is you dont get very many - and to make one potion you need 4, yup 4. At a low level it could take quite a few runs of sm or zf to get 4. But if your in zf you should be able to hit the hinterlands. If your not in the slime cave in the hinterlands or somewhere near that, it is hard to find.

Plus if you anything like me, when you find good herbs you sell them, not make potions.

Just trying to help out the lowbies :) Being quite honest for a lower level i had a heck of a time trying to find it. So i skipped over the potions that required it.
