Yes minning is real good so is herblism so its realy up to you which one you want to do I would go with minning

On my server mining pays off in the speed of the sales. A stack of copper goes for about ~1g give or take, but you can farm about 8 stacks in just over an hour, and they sell within an hour.
Iron also sells very fast but takes longer to gather but it goes for at least 5g a stack.
This works for me but I have not seriously farmed for my epic yet.
All prices, farming times, and AH time are per my realm so your mileage will vary.

In fact, take all the secondary professions. There is no good reason not to, even if you improve them slowly.
The sooner you start, the better. Skilling secondary professions is a chore unless you do it a little at a time while adventuring.
