#1 Apr 18 2006 at 3:25 PM Rating: Decent
Helly everyone,
I got skinning, and when I am skinning a dead mob, that is orange for me, I dont get a skill point.
For exammple my skill was 180, and I was skinning a orange Raptor body lvl 36, but my skill didnt incresead.
I tried to relog but that also didnt work.
anybody has the same or know why my skill isnt increasing?
btw. my skill is 180/225.

it doesnt matter whether the mob is orange, it depends on what color the word Skinnable is. I get skill points off of the orange Skinnable than I do the green. As you get so high, you don't get a skill point as easy when you skin.
My skinning is at 279

It just might be that you won't see a skill-up every single time, no matter the color. Don't know for sure though.

Currently I'm at 298 and there's a large period of time between skill-ups. (I just got a point earlier, so I know it's still possible.)

It takes time between skinning levels. Doesn't matter if the mob is Orange to you or not.

If it was a case of levelling everytime you hit an orange mob, you could run around with a lvl 60 Guildie and raise skinning to 300/300 within a day.

you can easily do that i'd wager.

Behold, yet another question whose answer can be found in thr Trade Skill Sticky!

Skinning is interesting as a gathering skill. For one thing, the typical "orange means always" rule does not apply. I have found that the skinning-skill-ups work like on a point system. Every skill level you reach, you need a certain number of points to get to the next level. Orange gives you the most, while green gives the least (excluding grey, which is none). What does this mean? By the time you get over 150 skill, you'll notice that you are not getting skill-ups from skinning orange-colored beasts. It will take anywhere from 2-12 orange-labeled beasts to get another point.

This is done, I believe, to scale skinning to other gathering skills. If you got a point for every orange-beast skinned, you'd level up even faster than you already do (literally, you could skill up to 300 within an hour or two, at most)! Face it: skinning is ridiculously easy to level, especially compared to mining. Herbalism is somewhere in the middle; but even with the "point system" (my own phrasing), skinning is the easiest gathering ability to skill up.

I beleive it is a glitch, I remember a yellow server message that said skinning mobs that are orange to you don't always give the skill point.

I dropped skinning and came back to it and it was a killer to relevel. When I killed a mob and the letters were orange, I could skin anywhere from 5-15 before getting a skill point. I asked Blizzard about it and they said that no one else has complained and not sure what to tell me. GRRRRRRRR

Yes skinning is a pain. But verses other skills it is the easiest. Takes time for each level but thats due to the fact there are so many sources to skin.

It's definitely the easiest trade skill to level by far, and the one that you'll probably be at 300 at the lowest character level as long as you do actually skin the beasts that you kill and don't just grind on humanoids...

Edit: I think I hit 300 skinning and 300 herb both around level 45-47ish on my rogue.
