Torn, Between Leatherworking and MiningFollow

#1 Apr 11 2006 at 8:03 AM Rating: Decent
I Have a level 19 druid, currently 152 skinning and 82 leatherworking, did I mention about as broke as Bobby Brown? Anyway's I've been reading up on how to actually make some money in the game. Turns out mining would've made me a lot more money a while back... too late for regrets though. So I am unsure if I am too far in to leatherworking to just give it up. Or, if I should drop it, pick up mining, and make some money. I'm not sure how tough mining is. Just looking for some advice.

Truthfully you can make alot of money with leatherworking , mainly once you have a sub-skill (Dragonscale , Tribal , Elemental) but ... certain lower level items sell good . For instance the Deviate Scale Belt. With mining you would probably be best dropping both skinning and leatherworking and going with mining/engineering or mining/blacksmithing ... but its your choice.

Do you enjoy leatherworking? If you find it fun and rewarding you may want to stick with it. There are advantages to production professions such as leatherworking as you level as well as later on at higher levels. Personally I enjoy making my own armor as I level. And there are some nice pieces of armor you can make if you gain reputation with the Timbermaw for example. Here’s a link you might find interesting.

However, if you took leatherworking just to make money, in my opinion you would be better served taking two gathering professions. If this is the case I’d recommend dropping leatherworking and taking up either mining or herbalism. I tend to favor mining, though many others prefer herbalism. It’s just a mater of personal preference.

If you take up mining all you need to do is head over to someplace like Elwynn Forest and run around the rocky areas and mines. Mine the copper ore you find, smelt it and then check the auction house for what it’s currently selling for. At your level the local mobs won’t be a problem. You’ll be able to level up your mining to a good level very quickly.

Like someone said if you enjoy it then stick with it. If it's just to make money I would go with 2 gathering skills. However don't do two skills like mining and herbalism because you can only see one on the map at a time. I would go skinning and herbalism or skinning and mining. Skinning is nice because a lot of the mobs you kill you can skin anyways.

Personaly I like leatherworking and skinning. As I leveled up my skill and character levels I made almost all my own armor. I didn't make a lot of money off leatherworking but I don't spend a lot on armor either. Now I'm 300 skinning and 300 Elemental Leatherworking and make money off both and have fun doing it.

you're not too far in leatherworking at all. the 2nd time around, you'll find that it's quite easy to get that level again.

i recommend to drop it if your goal right now involves other things than making your own leather gear.

i dropped lw early on also around ur skill lvl for herbalism. i was in the 20s at that time and i didnt take the time to farm the herbs in low lvl areas that i needed to gather herbs in the areas i was lvling in, i got bored and switched back to lw and now i am 300 skill and making tons of money. dont expect to make money leatherworking until u get past 250 and have specced. B4 that everything u make is mostly trash and lvling lw can be pretty boring but if u put the time in its worth it.
