Newbie Hunter/ProfessionFollow

#1 Apr 06 2006 at 9:06 PM Rating: Decent
ya... i am a noob 2 WoW. I am trying to only make one main account, and have decided the class is going 2 be hunter... that's it. I am leaning toward troll as race, and i am absolutly confused at what profession to choose. It seems like the skinner/leatherworker combo is the best for Hunters but everyone seems disappointed with their decisions at higher levels, i am leaning toward a engineer/fisher combo (they changed them to engineers and such).(i also want to be able to buy a mount at an upper lvl) as u kno... i am a noob... so excpect a noobie question. Here it goes. I have played runescape for like 2 years, loved it, and moved on to WoW (1,000s times better)it is much different, and i was wonderinig. With the hunter, when you shoot arrows, do you get unlimited arrows, or what happens when you shoot them? Do you have to pick them up or what??? Well ya, if you could help me choose the race and profession for my hunter ( oh ya, and limited down to these races: Night Elve, orc, tauren, and troll) Thnx

First off, two good reads for you:

GeneriKB's Guide to Making Money

The Trade Skills Sticky

Learn them. Love them. Memorize them(there will be a testSmiley: wink). Seriously though, my advice is to take what'll make you happy. Fishing is a must since it doesn't take up a trade skill slot. The trade skill sticky will help you understand the trades while GeneriKB's guide will help you see how to use them to profit. On a side note, if you go Troll as your race, you should almost definitely pick up skinning(whether to use the leather or to sell it in the AH) because of that nifty troll increased damage to beasts racial. That will benefit you quite a bit. And yes, you'll probably be disappointed with a crafting skill at early levels since you'll be a lot poorer with one.

I hope that this helps.

Edit: Just noticed the question about arrows. Those you can buy from vendors.

Here’s my professions suggestion. If you like crafting for the sake of crafting then take one crafting profession and one production profession. For example, skinning and leatherworking, herbalism and alchemy or mining and engineering to name a few. A production profession will eat up some of your money, but you can use your gathering profession to make money. If you’re more interested in just making money, take two gathering professions. These are usually skinning and mining or skinning herbalism. Most people avoid taking mining and herbalism together because both of these professions use the mini map to show you where the resources are located and you can only have one type of tracking active at a time. As a hunter it’s a bit more difficult because you’ll have to choose between your class tracking skills and your gathering skill. But it can be done. I usually leave my gathering track active unless I need to track beasts and such. Though on a PvP server it might be more of a juggling act.

Arrows are bought from NPC vendors in stacks of 200. As a hunter you’ll go through a lot of ammo. That’s why it’s worthwhile to use a quiver. Our massive use of ammo makes their use worthwhile and they allow us to shoot faster. For those using guns, engineers can make their own ammo that is a bit better than what can be bought from vendors. But to be honest I find it much faster and easier to simply buy ammo from vendors unless I just happen to have the materials on hand.
