Having trouble finding Black LotusFollow

To craft the new 24 slot herb bags you have to have revered reputation with the Cenarion Circle. My tailor is far too low level to achieve that in the foreseeable future. But I have found a friend of a friend who is willing to make me bags for free, as long as I provide the materials of course. One of the mats required is a black lotus.

My 58 hunter has 300 herbalism, but I’ve never encountered a black lotus. A friend and I searched through Winterspring and Silithus last night, using maps found on thottbot, to no avail. I would like to find three plants so that my two gatherers and my alchemist can each have one. Can anyone give me any tips on how to find these elusive plants?

I’ve searched the AH and but each plant runs 25 plus gold. I could of course farm the gold, but what’s the point of having 300 herbalism if I can’t pick my own plants? Any pointers would be very greatly appreciated.

Shame on you for using Thottbot, you guru of allakhazam ;)

... when all you needed was here!

Locations for you
Silithus:

Winterspring:

Burning Steppes:

Eastern Plaguelands:

I have personally found Black Lotus in Silithus, Winterspring and the Burning Steppes.

The respawn rate is 24 or 48 hrs (can't remember). The only method I ever found for farming them was to go to the locations on the maps I've linked every few days.

Once you find a spawn you could try and use a map note addon to write the time you got it so you can get back to the same spot for the respawn at the correct time.

Consider me chastised. *grins*

The only defense I can raise is that my friend went there first so I did so as well so we would be on the same maps. It’s not much of a defense, but it’s all I have. Though truth be told I use both sites quite often. If I could just combine the two I’d have the perfect resource.

Thank you very much for the links. The thottbot maps are very similar. I assume the solid white blocks should be lotus locations and that the circled ones are confirmed locations. I’ll have to ride out and see what I can find. It’s at times like this that I regret my rogue took skinning and mining instead of skinning and herbalism. Stealth would come in very hand.

I didn’t realize that black lotus had such a large respawn time. No wonder it’s so expensive. I thought there might be some something I was missing, like it only spawns at night. But I didn’t expect it was a respawn issue. I expect it would save me a lot of time if I just bought what I needed. But I tend to be rather stubborn about such things. I may end up buying my lotus, but not until I’ve tried to harvest it my self for a time. It’ll be just like a quest in my log with the lotus as the reward.

Does anyone know for sure if it's a 24 hr or a 48hr respawn time? Also anyone have any clue how many of them spawn per zone? My rogue is far too low to farm them now (currently at 43). However, I'd love to get 2 of these bags made for my bank slots, and I'll be of the level to farm in those areas soon enough. I'd really appreciated if you do decide to farm them you could let me/us know of the spawn times (if you're able to determine that). Really any additional information about the lotus would come in handy.

I'm like you, I hate spending gold when I know I could go farm the stuff myself. My hunter has a stockpile of gold on him, but I never got around to buying his epic mount, despite having plenty of money to do it. I'm too cheap :(

Then again, you could farm SM a few times and likely make all the gold you need in a few hours (espeically if twinking is a big thing on your server). Couple of nice blue drops from SM = epic mount on many servers... sadly...

I got lucky last night and managed to find two black lotus spawns in Winterspring. A few of the spawn locations on the map are in the midst of upper 50 elite camps. I ventured as far as I could without engaging them, but nothing popped up on track. I might have been able to kill the mobs, but I didn’t want to take the time to do so when I had so many locations to check out.

One of the first spots I checked out was the yet cave. Nothing. I then checked the furbolg village and to my complete surprise I found a black lotus on track. It was in the back of one of the small camps above the main fort and as luck would have it someone had just cleared it. After checking out all the other spawn locations I checked the yeti cave again and found a black lotus growing on the ledge just outside the cave entrance. Each plant produced only one black lotus, but that’s what I was expecting so I wasn’t disappointed by it.

So that was two spawns I gathered from in Winterspring within about an hour. As for the actual spawn times, who’s to say? I expect we will never know. The two locations I found the black lotus are very heavily trafficked for farming reputation in the case of the furbolg and farming leather in the case of the yeti. There’s no way to tell if the lotus has a long spawn time or if someone simply picks them as soon as they spawn.

I have no true knowledge of how the system works, but I suspect there are X number of spawn locations in a given zone and that there are Y number of spawns at any given time. When one plant is picked it will respawn in a random location after what may be a random amount of time. So a plant may appear in the same spot twice in a row or miss that spot for numerous spawns. This is how mithril nodes seem to spawn around the yeti above Southshore. And believe me; I’ve spent a LOT of time there.

I think Flomo is correct. The only way to farm black lotus is to visit each of the spawn locations and hope you get to the plants before someone else does.

It certainly is hard to find out if there's more than 1 black lotus in a zone at one time. For the simple fact that if you see one there's no way in hell you arn't gonna pick it!

I see 2 options:
1. Each node has a 48hr (assumed) respawn. There is only one node active at a time. Once one has been picked another pops up until all nodes have been exhausted. One respawns 48 hrs later at the 1st node location.

Looking at this it doesn't fully make sense because you would end up with the same respawn pattern everytime. Once a certain one was picked you would know where the next one is. Could be that there are a set number of nodes, like 3, active at one time. That would randomise it a bit more.

2. All nodes are independant of each other and respawn after picking 48 hrs later.

Personally I think that option 1 is closest to the truth as I have observed Blizzard using this method 1st hand (but not with black lotus)... but that doesn't mean it's the only way they do these things :)

As a lil tip for farming I find that (on an epic mount) running through any area of winterspring to get to a possible spawn location is fine (I've been to every one) apart from the in the far north (Frostsabres Rock) those stealthy pains in the *** will daze and dismount you very fast - so watch out!
