I am currently a level 265 armor smith and I am not sure which item to make that will let me level and not be too pricy. I have money but I dont want to dump all of it away.

I'm at about the same point. Only thing thats really been suggested to me is offer to craft Imperial plate stuff / Weaponsmith specials for free.

once ur 270 use radiant breastplate/thorium shield spike (its better to use but is very hard to get on my server at least. but i was lucky enough to get it) to 290ish. then once ur 290 its extremely easy if u can jus get pattern for radiant boots. thats wut i did at least and it wasnt too bad. jus some rubies/hearts of fire and some thorium. there was no way i was gunna make swords and stuff all the way to 300. way too many mats. but good luck. btw i found plans for radiant breastplate and boots in ah for about 2g each. but as far as getting from ur 265 to 270 to start using radiant breastplate.... uhh i dunno :)

I leveled up with Thorium Belts and Thorium Bracers, then Imperial Plate belts and bracers - least material, and all fairly readily available from farming. I kept a piece or two on the AH but very little of it actually sold - best bet would be to find an enchanter friend to disenchant them after they're crafted to level up his skills as well. I ended up donating most of mine to the guild giveaway, and although some of it might have been worn, I expect most was disenchanted.

If you don't have it, there's an addon called ReagentCost that is awesome in helping to determine what to level on. It tells you the costs of making an item based on AH prices on your server(I have it paired with Auctioneer but I'm semi-sure you can use another AH-pricing addon). Saves a lot of gold if you're planning on buying your mats. Otherwise, just do as was suggested by others, because farming yourself will always cost you the least amount of gold outright(gold lost due to not selling what is gathered makes it murky, but meh).

On another note, pairing ReagentCost with Auctioneer lets me decide what will sell for more than it costs to make...if it will actually sell, that part takes some trial and error.

My final suggestion is to take an alt to level 5 and add a third addon, Enchantrix, to the formula. That will tell you what an item disenchants into as well as the average value of those enchanting mats(even when you're looking at the item in the crafting screen), so you can make things that disenchant for more than they cost if you're lucky and enchanting mats have no AH listing price, so good times(plus I've never had mats not sell after a few tries listing).

If you just want to level you can smith the thorium and imperial pieces but it will cost you. I am a weaponsmith and can make a modest profit selling blight and phantom blade if I buy carefully.. however its dumb to try and sell more than one of each at a time. so if you want to level put the profit back into the items that require less mats and dump them with vendors.
