okay.. i have my leatherworking at 225 right now and i wasn't sure if i needed to go to the hinterlands to train up to 300 and then pick a path of LW or do i just go to a certain trainer (tribal, elemental, dragonscale) and i get my leatherworking up to 300 there?

I presume that you are an allie. ;)

You will have to go to The Hinterlands to learn Artisan Leatherworking, so that you can lvl up to 300. The Tribal, Elemental and Dragonscale leatherworkers dont learn you 'normal' lw, only a speciality.

note that you can reach 300 without chosing a specialty branch, but you can choose it before you reach 300. (i think it was chooseable at 250 or something like that).

Possibly a helpful note here: (On Horde, at least) the highest level leatherworking pattern that a trainer will teach you is approximately level 260. To get to 300 without much trouble, scan the Auction House for these recipes:

- Wicked Leather Headband
- Wicked Leather Gloves
- Runic Leather Bracers
- Runic Leather Headband

These should give you enough steam to hit 300 without any trouble or requiring you to search for some really crazy components.

Additionally, give some thought to what path you will want to choose for Leatherworking. I haven't personally done the Tribal line, but I have two 300 Dragonscale and Elemental leatherworkers. I have to say that the Dragonscale quest was much easier to complete than the Elemental quest, given the availibility of the items and what mobs drop them.

Each line is more geared to a certain utility, and each has it's perks (IE: Devilsaur leather, Black Dragonscale mail, Stormshroud leather). IMHO leatherworking needs a revamp to provide more appealing armor for the wide variety of characters, but you should be able to find a good use for each of them.

Oh, and as an aside, the minimum eligibility requirement to start the specialty leatherworking professions are level 40, 225 skill. The quests are listed in your logbook as level 55, but can be completed any time after 225.
