Best Gold Strategy?Follow

#1 Mar 13 2006 at 2:21 AM Rating: Default
So what's best for making money? Farming NPC's? or actually choosing a trade skill and trying to make a living off it? Or some sort of hybrid of both systems?

If it is a trade skill... what's the best race/class/skill combo?

Thanks!

There is no BEST way to make money. It all depends on the player and how they play the game.

- Grind mobs for vendor trash. = some income, but very very boring.
- Dual gather professions, skin, mine, herb. = good income.
- Single Crafter + Gather profession combo. = Good money if you know what sells well.
- Dual Crafter combo (leather/tailor for example). = Excellent money if you are smart and keep track of everything well and get the very rare recipes.
- Play the Auction House, buy low and sell high. = Best income, but very risky if you don't pay close attention to the market.

I've been burned by this a few times when I think I see a good weapon up for cheap, and it turns out nobody wants it. Weapons usually have a very high deposit, and if they dont sell, you loose it.

While its no get-rich-quick scheme, just running instances without wiping tends to gather quite a bit of gold. I made 34 gold running zg and aq20 this weekend.

I'm all for TRIPLE-gather professions. Add fishing to the mix of double-gathers. Excellent money.

Right now on my 55 Hunter I make an avg of about 10 gold off of Disenchanting stuff and selling the mats on the AH. Also buying mats for cheap and selling them for high... you'll find stacks of Greater Nether Essence with no buyout and the bids are like 2 gold. Bought a stack the othernight for 3 gold and turned around and sold it with a buyout for 30 :)

Well, i personally go Herb/Alc and fish/cook for all of my money. in about 2 days i used the AH for some supplies, made potions and put them on AH, buy/sell recipes on AH, arc trasnmute for 5g, savroy deviates, etc. etc. etc. i literally made about 150g after two true days of working on making money. (also gaining level 38 and 39 in the process, almost time for that mount ^_^)

If your willing to take the time and run MC for it as an engineer you can get a recipe for the Coremarksmen rifle .. don't have t yet but it sells for about 1k I think mats are about 600 G normally so get the schematic get 600G and your good .... or go farm iron and make iron g nades for cash^^... or farm thorium mith stack of 20 of mith gets you 3 - 4 g on my server and I find it in searing gorge where I level ^^.. or if level 60 mining can get you lots of money just farm thorium its sells for a lot even if you don't get an arcane crystal.. send greens you find to an enchanter alt try to sell on AH once if no good d/e and sell mats ^^... or go herb alch I haven't tried this but if you do this you can farm high level herbs for about 1 day (now like 24 hr. just 1 day of playing) and make a bunch of potions then sell extra herbs for more cash ... it helps for most of these if your a rogue like me... and if your a level 60 rogue who needs some cash (helps to have Master of Decption and camoflauge [I suck at spelling its spring break what do you expect] go through ZG in stealth and just pickpocket) I'm gonna do that when I hit 60 because those drops are better then ZF pickpocket lol.... make sure your lockpicking is 300^^ you get quite a bit f boxes from pick pocketing (make sure you have flash powder >.< its hard w/o a back up)

^_^ so go make some cash (its always helps to be a high level =D)

Edit:
Zomg how could I forget this at level 60 go farm the furbolgs in winter spring get rep while farming runecloth^^

during the whole AQ thing I gathered close to 500 illusion dust 100 Greater eternal essences and 50 greater nethers.....

so I sat in org for about 8 hours straight selling chants and guess what

I bought an alt an epic mount :D

enchanting is by far the best money maker once your name is recognized

I recently started a lvl 29 BG twink on a pvp server. So far in the 2 months I've played the char, I have a staff with +22int, and one with +30 spellpower, and the mats were expensive as its a newer server. Anyway, fishing and playing the AH were my primary forms of money. On PVP servers you can fish Stonescales in Feathermoon Stronghold as a lvl 20 with 225 fishing and +75 bait. I have made a killing off of them, maybe not as good of a drop rate as Tanaris, but I'm lvl 29 so I don't have a choice.

If you're horde... and can solo low level instances with no problem, then i have two words for you-Ragefire Chasm. Try and get the swiftness potion recipes and sell for 30-40g each in the AH. Some rich noob will probably pick it up.

i agree with most above,

mining, bs and fishing are good money makers

fishing when you are patient (which i'm not)
Blacksmitting when you have the good mats (which i dont)
Mining for quick and easy money when you know the places (which i do!!)
But the easiest money to make is item-grinding in the lower (so where you can solo) instances and sending it to you (dis)enchanting alt. and sell the dusts, shards etc.

thus "alt-enchanting".

Always get enchanting or an alt enchanter!!

Grtzz

just for the record and for the newbs en noobs: alt-enchanting is not possible with BOP-items. But i think thats logical as the great Spock would say...

grtzz again

I am on my first character, and I just saved up enough to get my mount. To me the best strategy(other than taking the cheap route and buying gold online) is a combination of all 3. Grinding (especially humanoids) is decent for $. Crafting can be lucrative too. I am doing tailoring/enchanting, and while those take a while and a decent bit of money to get going, they are beginning to pay off pretty well as I am around 225 on both. Instances provide higher end drops, but again, that's a crap shoot. If you are in no hurry, do a combination of the three and try to enjoy playing the game. There is really no quick fix. If you played FFXI you know that earning money on WOW really isn't a struggle at all in comparison.

I didn't see it mentioned, so I will. I make consistant money on AH for instance drops as well as my leathergoods. Skinning provides mats for my leatherworking, and excess leather is easy to unload on AH as well. Just be careful not to flood your market, be patient and make some money every day instead of trying to score big on one day. Pay atention to when stuff sells, not every day is busy on every server. I tend to sell weapons and armor best on Sunday and Monday on my PvP server. Take advantage of the Rep Rush. :)

indeed, sunday (and i dont know about monday) is the best moment to sell items. I learned that sunday is WoW-day.

Most important is that sunday is a day of rich noobs and we all know that rich noobs will pay big money for mats and items on that "1" day they are playing.

I myself made myself guilty sometimes on paying big for mats to just make that 1 item on my BS list

I agree with everyone else play the AH or if your a skinner go to vale. I have to say its like walking through a forest with money everywhere on the ground. People loot the tigers and panthers for quests and leave the bodies to skin. At the end of this i was around like 240 + skinning and at least 10g richer after grinding for < 3 hours and walking around.
Another idea is send 10 to 20 percent of your income when you level to an alt or mule each day. If you can't trust yourself send it to a very trusted person who can store it for you. By doing this you can save money for a mount and possibly an epic mount and not have to worry about about it later. You wont beleive how easy it is if you do this. Once you have money for a mount or epic mount you can stop storring money or keep it up in case you see some really amzing epic and need to buy it.
Or if your really deplorable and want to ruin the game theres always places online that you can buy it from.
Remember give a man a fish and he'll be full for a day. Teach a man to fish he'll be full the rest of his life. You can use gather skills to make money fast but put 100's of gold into a main proffesion and you'll make 1000's later.

The first toon i set up on my account was a rogue miner/herbalist. He can easily gather herbs and ore in Asharza to make 60 gold an hour. On Bonechewer dreamfoil and mountain silversage goes for 16 to 20 gold a stack, sometimes more. Not to metion the Rich Thorium Veins that are scattered through asharza where you can get arcane crystals. The reason rogues make the best miner/herbalist combos is because of their ability to stealth past elites to get good materials. Ghost Mushrooms found near elites in a cave in the hinterlands are easy to get when you just sap the elite and take the shroom. Rogues can stealth BRD and average about 10 dark iron ore from all the dark iron deposits in BRD and then reset the dungeon and do it all over again. This came in handy for my lock's dreadsteed quest and rep for the thorium brotherhood.

For those of you who don't know, buying gold is a direct violation of the terms of use and if Blizzard finds out (they see 1000 gold apear out of nowhere) you are done...gone...banned. End of story. Just make money the honest way, once you find a good source of income its real easy.

also lately I picked up a ravager axe in the SM armoury for my 60 warrior who is in mostly epic gear, and I go and pick up about half of lib with with a sword n board combo in def stance, and after I've got about 30 guys, I whip out my ravager axe....

this can kill everything there if I'm lucky, I've also kept my chained essence of erikanus, I drop a thorium grenade, and drink an oil of immoliation

I have a mage buddy who used to do this kinda thing with Iceblocking and a cloak of fire, with his 500 spell dmg, and would pop his ZHC and ToEP before he activated the cloak, and it was tikking for 700 or so :D after which he would jump away 5 feet Fnova+coC then AE a bit to kill off the rest

he's been taking a break for the last 4 months tho so I have no idea if this still works

Level a toon up to 60. Get enchanting as a profession. Start farming humanoids that drop cash, cloth, and greens. Disenchant the greens (and blues) and sell them and the cloth in the AH. Do this in instances like VC, RC, WC, RK, Gnomer, and SM over and over again. Boring but profitable.
